Part-Time Archivist – Small Museum

Position Type: Part-Time Schedule: Flexible hours Location: The Interurban Railway Museum, Plano, TX

About the Position

The Interurban Railway Museum is seeking a detail-oriented and creative Part-Time Archivist to support the preservation, organization, and interpretation of our collections. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a collaborative, community-focused environment and is passionate about making history accessible through innovative displays and public outreach.

Key Responsibilities

· Manage, organize, and preserve archival materials, artifacts, and digital records

· Maintain and update the museum’s collections database

· Work with the Executive Director and Museum Director to develop engaging exhibits and interpretive displays

· Assist in creating and implementing outreach programs for diverse audiences

· Support research requests from staff, visitors, and community partners

· Ensure proper handling, storage, and documentation of all collection items

Minimum Qualifications

· Bachelor’s degree in History, Museum Studies, Library/Information Science, Anthropology, or a related field

· Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

· Ability to work independently and manage flexible scheduling

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

· Experience using PastPerfect museum software and archival experience

· Background in exhibit design or public programming

· Creative approach to community engagement and storytelling
