Bayt al-Dastkari — Vocational & Digital Skills Centre | Project Rihla

Organisation: Heal Social Foundation® (SECP-registered nonprofit) Location: Karachi, Pakistan (on-site) Engagement Type: Part-time / Contractual (to be confirmed)

Reporting To: IT & Admin Support Officer / Heal Leadership

Department: Education — Project Rihla, Bayt al-Dastkari

About Heal Social Foundation®

Heal Social Foundation® is a Karachi-based nonprofit committed to Health, Education, Awareness, and Love for Humanity. Our education initiative, Project Rihla, runs Bayt al-Dastkari — a vocational and digital skills centre teaching commercially viable, practical skills to underprivileged students and their families. Our students are at approximately Grade 6-8 level, with existing exposure to basic carpentry and laptop repair.

"What is an ocean but a multitude of drops."

About the Role

We are looking for a passionate, hands-on Arduino & Electronics Instructor to design and deliver a foundational vocational course in Arduino, basic electronics, and physical computing for our students at Bayt al-Dastkari.

This is not a traditional classroom teaching role. Our students are underprivileged, practically minded young learners who respond to doing, making, and building. The right candidate will meet them where they are — building on their existing comfort with physical materials and hardware — and guide them toward real, marketable electronics skills.

The instructor will work closely with Shahrukh, our current laptop repair trainer, to ensure the Arduino curriculum connects naturally with students' existing technical knowledge.

What You Will Do
  • Design a beginner-friendly Arduino curriculum tailored to Grade 6 level students with no prior electronics experience — starting with visual/block-based coding before progressing to text-based programming.
  • Deliver hands-on weekly sessions at Bayt al-Dastkari, guiding students through progressively complex projects — from blinking LEDs to building water level indicators, motion alarms, and basic automation systems.
  • Collaborate with Shahrukh (laptop repair trainer) to align the Arduino course with existing hardware knowledge and create a coherent vocational pathway for students.
  • Maintain student progress records and submit regular updates to the IT & Admin Support Officer.
  • Help students develop small, sellable electronics projects — building toward income-generating potential.
  • Contribute to Heal's Research & Innovation workstream by identifying student projects that could address real community challenges (water, sanitation, energy).
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to course planning and assessment reviews.

  • What We Are Looking For

    Must have:

    • Hands-on experience with Arduino and basic electronics (hobby, academic, or professional)
    • Ability to explain technical concepts simply and patiently to young, non-technical learners
    • Comfortable working in a resource-constrained, community-oriented environment
    • Genuine interest in social impact and education for underserved communities

    Nice to have:

    • Prior teaching, tutoring, or training experience (formal or informal)
    • Familiarity with visual/block-based coding tools (Scratch, Tinkercad, etc.)
    • Knowledge of solar, IoT, or basic automation systems
    • Experience working with NGOs or nonprofits

Education: Diploma or degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field — or equivalent practical experience.

    What We Offer
    • The opportunity to build a first-of-its-kind vocational electronics programme for underserved students in Karachi
    • A collaborative, mission-driven team
    • Certificate of contribution from Heal Social Foundation®
    • Public recognition as the founding Arduino instructor for Bayt al-Dastkari
    • Potential for a longer-term role as the programme grows and funding is secured
    • Compensation: To be confirmed (stipend-based in initial phase)

  • To Apply

Send your CV and a brief note (no more than a paragraph) on why this role interests you to Heal Social Foundation® leadership at team@healsocialfoundation.com
