We are growing our Istanbul-based engineering team and looking for backend engineers who are excited to build the connective tissue between our platform and the outside world.

About the Role

As a Backend Engineer - Integrations, you’ll be responsible for designing and developing the APIs, pipelines, and integrations that connect Areal.ai with third-party platforms, internal tools, customer systems, and more. Your work will be critical in ensuring smooth data flow between our AI automation engine and the systems our clients rely on every day (think LOSs, CRMs, email servers, cloud storage providers, and mortgage tech stacks).

This is a high-impact role that sits at the intersection of systems thinking, clean API design, and pragmatic backend development.

Integration Engineering

• Design and implement secure, scalable, and reliable integrations and middleware with external systems (REST, GraphQL, webhooks, file-based).
• Work closely with Product, Solutions Engineering, and Customer Success teams to deeply understand the requirements for integrations.
• Build and maintain SDKs or connectors that help enterprise clients easily connect to Areal.

Backend Development

• Extend and maintain backend services written in Python and Django API Frameworks
• Work with structured and unstructured data—files, forms, APIs, databases—and manage them in robust ETL pipelines.
• Ensure quality with automated tests, observability, and graceful error handling across systems.

Collaboration & Impact

• Participate in architectural discussions and design reviews.
• Support deployment, monitoring, and debugging of production systems.
• Help shape Areal’s long-term integration and backend strategy as we grow.

Requirements

• 2–5 years of backend development experience, ideally with Python.
• Strong understanding of API protocols (REST, gRPC, GraphQL) and security best practices (OAuth, rate limiting, etc).
• Hands-on experience with AWS, especially ECS (Elastic Container Service) for running containerized services in production environments.
• Deep knowledge of Docker and containerized application development.
• Experience with integrations involving cloud platforms (e.g., Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Dropbox, Salesforce, or similar).
• Familiarity with queue-based systems and data pipelines (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ, or Celery).
• Comfortable working in a startup or high-velocity environment with a lean team.
• Strong English communication skills, both written and verbal.

Nice to Have

• Experience working in real estate, mortgage, or fintech integrations (LOS, POS, CRM systems).
• Experience with document management workflows (PDF parsing, OCR, classification).
• Familiarity with container orchestration (Kubernetes) and infrastructure as code (Terraform, Pulumi).
• Exposure to frontend stacks or full-stack development (not required).
