Art Gallery Associate

Tory Folliard Gallery is seeking a motivated, organized, and detail-oriented Gallery Associate to join our team. This full-time position offers an exciting opportunity to work closely with artists, collectors, and gallery staff while supporting the daily operations of one of Milwaukee’s leading contemporary art galleries.

The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in contemporary art, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. This position combines public relations, sales, social media marketing, exhibition coordination, and artist relations.

Responsibilities

Exhibition & Artist Relations

• Coordinate exhibition preparation, including scheduling with artists and organizing exhibition materials.
• Maintain and organize artist information, images, inventories, and related documents.
• Assist with exhibition installations, openings, and special events.
• Foster positive relationships with gallery artists and support their professional representation.

Marketing & Public Relations

• Develop and implement social media and public relations initiatives that promote exhibitions, artists, and gallery events.
• Create, edit, and manage photography and video content for digital marketing and social media platforms.
• Assist with email marketing campaigns, press releases, and promotional materials.
• Maintain and update gallery images, artist information, and exhibition content online.

Sales & Client Relations

• Welcome visitors and engage clients with knowledge and enthusiasm about the gallery’s artists and exhibitions.
• Assist with artwork sales and follow-up communications.
• Develop a strong understanding of the gallery’s artists, inventory, and current exhibitions.

Gallery Operations

• Maintain accurate digital records and organizational systems.
• Assist with day-to-day gallery operations and administrative projects.
• Support special events, openings, and occasional off-site activities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred in Visual Arts, Art History, Graphic Design, Interior Design, Marketing, or a related field.
• Strong interest in contemporary art and the visual arts.
• Excellent writing, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational abilities.
• Experience in sales, marketing, public relations, or customer service.
• Experience creating photography and video content for social media and marketing purposes.
• Proficiency with social media platforms and digital marketing tools.
• Familiarity with graphic design software such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or Affinity Designer.
• Self-motivated, professional, and able to work both independently and collaboratively.

Professional Development

The Gallery Associate is encouraged to stay engaged with the local and national art community through exhibitions, museum visits, periodicals, and art publications in order to develop a broad understanding of contemporary art and gallery practices.

Position Details

• Hours: 30–35 hours per week
• Schedule: Tuesday–Friday, 11:00 AM–5:00 PM; Saturday, 11:00 AM–4:00 PM
• Additional Hours: Occasional evenings for exhibition openings and special events
• Location: On-site at Tory Folliard Gallery
• Compensation: $21–$24 per hour, based on experience
• Benefits: Health insurance

Pay: $21.00 - $24.00 per hour
