HudsonWay Immersion School (HWIS) in New York City seeks a creative and dedicated Art Teacher (Maternity Leave Coverage) to provide high-quality visual arts instruction for students in Preschool through Grade 8. The substitute art teacher will implement existing curriculum plans and create engaging, age-appropriate lessons that nurture creativity, self-expression, and cultural awareness. This temporary position offers an opportunity to join a collaborative, mission-driven school community that values bilingualism, innovation, and the arts.

Art Teacher Responsibilities:

• Implement and adapt developmentally appropriate art lessons for students in preschool through 8th grade.
• Continue established curriculum and long-term projects during the regular teacher’s absence.
• Teach art history, techniques, and media, including drawing, painting, sculpture, and mixed media.
• Encourage creativity and self-expression while maintaining a supportive classroom environment.
• Prepare and organize art materials; ensure the classroom remains clean, safe, and well-managed.
• Assess, document, and report on student progress as needed.
• Manage inventory and ensure sufficient materials are available for planned lessons.
• Collaborate with colleagues to support school-wide events, art shows, and exhibitions.
• Communicate with families and staff in alignment with school values and expectations.

Art Teacher Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, Art Education, or a related field; teaching certification preferred.
• Prior teaching experience, ideally with elementary and middle school students.
• Strong knowledge of art techniques, media, and instructional practices.
• Excellent communication and classroom management skills.
• Flexible, reliable, and collaborative approach to teaching and teamwork.
• Commitment to fostering creativity, cultural appreciation, and global awareness.

Schedule:

Part-Time (3 days per week)

Employment Term:

Maternity Leave Coverage — November 2025 through June 2026
