Overview

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Art Teacher to teach studio-style homeschool and afterschool art classes. Only high energy candidates with a positive attitude will be considered. Experience making and teaching art is required to apply.
The ideal person will have experience teaching art and working with children, along with a professional art portfolio/exhibition record. This role will involve planning and facilitating drawing, painting and mixed media art classes for home school and after school sessions. The position will also involve hosting art-themed birthday parties for children, as needed on the weekends, and other special events. There is also the opportunity to work our school break and summer camps.

Responsibilities

  • Create a positive, enthusiastic environment, where students and families feel welcome.
  • Lead engaging art lessons that cover techniques such as drawing, painting and mixed-media sculpture, tailored to different age groups and skill levels.
  • Foster a positive learning atmosphere, where students feel safe taking risks, and trying new methods.
  • Have lessons and materials ready at the start of class time, and clean up before leaving.
  • Mentor students by providing constructive feedback, encouraging experimentation, and supporting individual artistic goals.
  • Hosting birthday parties with energy, to create a fun atmosphere.
  • Work with other teachers to share responsibilites during school break and summer camps.

Qualifications

  • Must be energetic, with a positive attitude, an outgoing personality.
  • Proven experience working with children in an educational or extracurricular setting, ideally within an art program.
  • A strong art portfolio or exhibition record.
  • Knowledge of art techniques, lesson development, and classroom management strategies.
  • Familiarity with special education needs, including working with students requiring extra support.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively engage students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Should be comfortable hosting a party or special event: managing games, guiding guests in the completion of art projects, serving pizza/cake, with responsibility for clean-up.

Pay: From $18.00 per hour

Expected hours: 5.0 – 10.0 per week
