Job Summary

The Assistant Principal of Curriculum and Instruction serves as part of the Academic Leadership Team and is responsible for supporting the implementation of evidence-based practices into classrooms by working with and supporting teachers and administration. This person directly supports the school-wide goal of increasing student academic growth and achievement through building teacher capacity and boosting student engagement. He or she works as a colleague with classroom teachers to support student learning. They may also provide individual and group professional development that will expand and refine the understanding about research-based effective instruction at the high school level.

• Coordinate the daily teacher substitute schedule;
• Propose updates to the curriculum and resources that may be needed for better implementation;
• Oversee the Advisory Program to support student success;
• Work with the Academic Leadership team to develop and implement a Coaching Cycle for assigned teachers, which will include:
  • Observing in classrooms and having follow-up feedback conversations in on a weekly or bi-weekly basis, a cadence determined by the principal based on needs of each individual teacher;
  • Analyzing teacher's needs through individual meetings and developing personal growth plans;
  • Modeling instructional strategies in the classroom through model lessons or co-teaching
  • Participating in Learning Walks to collect classroom data on progress towards school-wide Academic Vision
• Assisting with the analysis of student data and developing responsive instructional plans. Specific examples include:
  • Developing and facilitating individual, group and whole school professional development based on data
  • Working with teachers in analyzing data and making instructional decisions based on individual, small group and class data
  • SAT data analysis and initiatives for increased SAT Achievement
  • Regularly reviewing school-wide balanced assessment plan and determining effectiveness of its classroom implementation (namely in ongoing formative assessment practices)
• Work with first year teachers and support other teachers as needed in their role, including:
  • Reviewing lesson/unit/annual plans, and building and revising assessments
  • Co-planning and co-teaching specific lessons
  • Providing feedback and supporting teachers in reflective practices
  • Providing resource materials, instructional tools, information etc. to support classroom instruction
  Helping teachers learn to use data—both formative and summative
  • -to improve and drive instruction
  • Working with academic leadership team to facilitate the Looking at Student Work protocol and lesson study in grade level team and content teams
  • Conduct biweekly gradebook checks to ensure that teachers have most up to date grades for students

Athletic Program Leadership:

• Provide leadership and direction for the school’s interscholastic athletic programs.
• Establish goals and expectations that support student-athlete development, sportsmanship, and alignment with the mission of the school.
• Evaluate athletic programs annually by reviewing participation levels, team performance, and student-athlete experience in order to identify areas for program growth and improvement.
• Develop and implement strategies to increase participation across athletic offerings and strengthen the competitiveness of programs.
• The Athletic Director works to strengthen existing athletic programs while expanding opportunities for student participation across all sports offerings.
• Foster a culture that promotes teamwork, discipline, and school pride.

Coach Recruitment, Supervision, and Development:

• Recruit, hire, supervise, and evaluate head and assistant coaches.
• Establish expectations for coaches regarding student supervision, communication with families, and adherence to school policies.
• Provide feedback and support to coaches to promote professional growth and program improvement.
• In collaboration with Human Resources, ensure all coaches and athletic volunteers complete required background checks, HR onboarding, and child protection compliance prior to the start of each season.
• Maintain Don Bosco Cristo Rey Coaches and Student Athlete Handbook.

Student-Athlete Eligibility and Academic Accountability:

• Support college-bound culture of student athletes and work with the College Success and Alumni Persistence team to support recruitment efforts and athletic scholarships.
• Monitor student-athlete academic eligibility and maintain records ensuring compliance with school “No Pass, No Play” policies and applicable league requirements.
• Work with school leadership and academic support staff when eligibility concerns arise.
• Maintain accurate records related to student-athlete participation and eligibility.

Medical and Safety Compliance:

• Maintain records confirming that all student-athletes have current athletic physicals and required medical documentation prior to participation.
• Work closely with the school nurse to ensure compliance with health requirements and injury reporting procedures.
• Ensure adherence to safety protocols, including concussion guidelines and emergency procedures.
• Obtain/maintain CPR and first-aid certifications.

Athletic Operations and Scheduling:

• Coordinate scheduling of athletic contests, practices, and facilities usage.
• Manage Don Bosco’s participation in the PVAC conference, including knowledge and compliance of PVAC school requirements.
• Ensure compliance with all PVAC policies, eligibility requirements, and reporting expectations.
• Arrange transportation logistics for athletic teams in coordination with school operations staff.
• Coordinate officials and referees for athletic contests in accordance with PVAC requirements.
• Oversee game-day operations including facility preparation, equipment readiness, and supervision of events.
• Manage the annual Cristo Rey Cup soccer tournament, including coordination with participating schools, fundraising efforts, and day-of event logistics.

Facilities and Equipment Oversight:

• Coordinate with facilities staff to ensure athletic facilities are properly maintained and safe for student use.
• In conjunction with the coaches, oversee the inventory, distribution, collection, storage, repair and purchase of all equipment and uniforms.

Budget Management:

• Develop and manage the annual athletic department budget.
• Monitor program expenditures to ensure responsible stewardship of resources.
• Work with school leadership regarding equipment needs, program investments, and future budget planning.

Communication and Community Engagement:

• Maintain clear and consistent communication with the Principal and school leadership team regarding the needs and status of the athletic program.
• Provide periodic updates to school leadership regarding athletic participation, program needs, and overall program performance.
• Communicate effectively with students, parents, coaches, and staff regarding athletic expectations and schedules.
• Work with the school’s communications team to promote athletic events, schedules, and student-athlete accomplishments.
• Support school spirit through pep rallies, athletic recognition events, and community engagement.

Student Recruitment and Enrollment Support:

• Support the school’s student recruitment efforts by highlighting athletic opportunities to prospective families.
• Represent the athletic program at admissions events when appropriate.
• Build relationships with youth programs, middle schools, and community organizations to strengthen the pipeline of future student-athletes.

Qualifications:

• 5-7+ years of professional experience working in education and/or athletics

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous successful experience serving as a high school Athletic Director strongly preferred.

• Experience supervising coaches and managing athletic programs.

• Experience developing or expanding athletic participation in a school setting.

• Understanding of interscholastic athletics and eligibility requirements.

The College Success Manager leads best practices for the College Success Team and works closely with the Director of College Success & Alumni Persistence to continuously improve the processes, functions, and outcomes of the College Success Counseling Office. Essential Functions and Responsibilities

College Success Leadership

• In collaboration with the Director of College Success & Alumni Persistence, design programming that challenges, engages, inspires, and supports students, including enhancing and implementing pre-college & college enrollment support to students in grades 9-12, with a special focus on 11th and 12th grade students.

• Support the College Success Team in troubleshooting issues with family college support, financial aid, successful student progression in College Prep course to develop strategies for improvement and strengthening these efforts.

• Design and execute strategies for serving specific populations of students, such as financially need-based, students of undocumented parents, and First Generation college students.

• Ensure students receive stellar college access guidance by collaborating with CSAP team to plan 11th and 12th grade College Prep curriculum annually.

• Work with the Finance department to oversee the Summer Scholars pre-college grant disbursement process for awardees annually. This includes verifying amounts, confirming institutional details, and maintaining clear communication to prevent any discrepancies.

• Maintain in-depth knowledge of both federal and school-specific financial aid policies and procedures to provide training and support to College Success team, students, and families.

• Convene and manage the DBCR Summer Script Program, ensuring high achieving rising seniors have an opportunity to maintain a head start on competitive college application essays and scholarships prior to the start of the senior year.

• Convene and manage annual mini college fair ensuring students in grades 9-12 have at least one in-school event for college exposure.

• Provide ongoing and consistent support to novice College Success counselors by:

  • Assessing their experiences in college access quarterly and providing various opportunities throughout the year for feedback.

  • Planning and attending activities to foster relationships to ensure counselors feel abreast of trends in post-secondary education, and express ideas or concerns through coffee chats, team lunch, etc to increase the novice counselor retention.

  • Communicating feedback and novice counselor needs to Director of College Success and Alumni Persistence, and Alumni Persistence Manager, and provide suggestions for mentoring improvements and enhancements.

• In collaboration with the Director of College Success and Alumni Persistence, convene and manage annual CRN Decision Tracker, Network Scholarships, and highly competitive national scholarship opportunities.

• In collaboration with the Director of College Success and Alumni Persistence, evaluate the quality of the College Prep Curriculum, CSAP training, and work with the various external departments to develop strategies for high achieving student recruitment, retention and college enrollment.

Management and Leadership

• Support novice College Success team members with developing and updating lesson planning, individualized academic plans, setting clear goals and strategies to support the College Success office.
• Facilitate weekly meetings with Director of College Success and Alumni Persistence, and Alumni Persistence Manager to discuss upcoming events, relevant deadlines and create a space for learning and support.
• Co-lead team meetings and regular morale activities.

Case Management

• Manage assigned caseload of students, providing academic, holistic, and culturally competent support to ensure that they earn their degrees.
• Track and maintain student data via SCOIR and internal College Success database. Work with the Director of College Success and Alumni Persistence and College Success team to maintain, collect, and analyze data for evaluation, instructional, and reporting purposes.
• Ability to advocate for students and families, and connect them with appropriate resources.
• Display professionalism, flexibility, problem-solving skills to address unexpected challenges faced by students and/or parents.

Other Responsibilities

• Work with the Director of College Success and Alumni Persistence to create and strengthen relationships with local colleges and universities to Don Bosco Cristo Rey students.

• Represent CSAP at relevant convenings, such as conferences, roundtables, etc., as appropriate.

• Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree
• At least three years of experience working with youth, particularly youth from marginalized communities.
• At least five years of experience with college counseling and/or case management.
• At least three years of demonstrated leadership and experience managing a team.
• Ability to analyze and interpret program performance data and make data-driven adjustments to maximize impact.
• Compelling and confident public speaker who is comfortable speaking and presenting in both formal and informal settings.
• Strong relationship-builder who can connect with a diverse range of internal and external partners and inspire people to action.

Desired Qualifications

• Experience working with teen parents.
• Proven experience working with college-bound students, particularly students in underserved communities, in academic advising, student support, or counseling roles.
• Master’s degree in Education, Counseling, Social Work or a graduate certificate in higher education.
• Experience with program evaluation.
• Bilingual Spanish/English is a plus.
• Understanding of the college financial aid process and financial aid options, and of public benefits and services available for low-income populations in the D.C. metro area.
• Knowledge of higher education policies and resources related to student parents.

Work Environment

• In-person office environment. Some work will take place off-site during special events.

Travel

College Success Manager - $60-80K (Commensurate with experience).

The Corporate Work Study Program (CWSP) Student Training & Career Development Coordinator prepares students for success in their CWSP placements, helps them develop lifelong professional skills, and advances career exposure. This team member will:

• Develop, oversee, and implement a comprehensive four-year curriculum of training, upskilling, and career development programming, including the two-week “Summer Bridge to Success” program for incoming students;
• manage and develop partnerships that advance the program;
• provide guidance and feedback on CWSP-related academic curricula;
• support the development of individualized student “re-training” or performance improvement plans in coordination with CWSP Partnership Managers.

Core KPIs for the role include:

• Student work-study performance (as measured by weekly timecard ratings and Student Associate Performance Reports);
• CWSP partner satisfaction (as measured by contract renewals and “upselling”);
• College and career access results (measurements still TBD).

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Curriculum Design & Professional Development

• Design, execute, and evaluate a 2-week “Summer Bridge to Success” training program for incoming 9th graders;
• Design, execute, and evaluate approximately four half-day training sessions a year to support students’ training and professional growth;
• Develop resources for CWSP supervisors to facilitate student growth and engagement, including potential events like “Supervisor Roundtables”;
• Collaborate with CWSP team members to align all existing training and to create new training sessions based on student job placement needs and feedback;
• Develop and manage partnerships to provide skills-training programming throughout the year (e.g. utilizing Corporate Work Study Program partners for professional writing workshops);
• Design and oversee student training and upskilling curriculum for students without work study placements, such as the 9th grade Leadership Academy;
• Coordinate with the Assistant Principal for Curriculum & Instruction to best utilize dedicated academic courses and classroom time for student training and professional development, such as the 9th grade Business Information Management class and 10th grade Startup Tech class.
• Co-lead department-meetings for the Business Curriculum department with the Assistant Principal for Curriculum & Instruction;

Career Exposure & Preparation

• Utilize data on student career interests to develop and execute career-exposure programming throughout the year, such as “Lunch & Learns” and Career Day;
• Manage and implement partnerships for student career development, such as the Georgetown Law Early Outreach and Kaiser Permanente shadow days;
• Identify and communicate summer work, internship, and learning opportunities for students which advance professional skills and career exposure;
• Help develop and communicate college-level internship opportunities for DBCR alumni at existing CWSP partners and beyond.

CWSP Team Support

• Create template performance improvement plans and programming for students in need of performance improvement or who have been dismissed from their placements and support Partnership Managers with implementation;
• Assist with CWSP team operations as needed, such as occasionally staffing the Silver Spring Remote Work Center; supporting Morning Attendance; and maintain accurate records in WorkStudyForce.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• This role has no full-time staff managerial responsibilities. Currently, this role will manage one part-time volunteer that staffs the 9th grade Leadership Academy;
• This role reports to the Director of the Corporate Work Study Program.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree;
• 3-5+ years of experience in a customer service, workforce development, or educational role;
• Strong professional experience and familiarity with the Microsoft Office suite;
• Experience working with diverse youth populations;

• Experience in designing educational, training, or internship experiences for high school or college students;

• Teach multiple sections of high school visual arts, specific disciplines to be determined (could include any of the following: Fo, Drawing/Painting, Digital Art, Portfolio Development, Photography, Graphic Design, Fashion Design, etc.)
• Design and implement a standards-aligned visual arts curriculum that builds skills progressively from introductory to advanced levels.
• Develop rigorous, engaging lessons that incorporate:

• Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.

Program Development

• Lead the development of a multi-year visual arts pathway (9–12).
• Build toward implementation of AP Art & Design (2D, 3D, or Drawing) within 1–3 years.
• Support students in developing portfolio-quality work for college admissions and AP submission.
• Establish partnerships or connections (where possible) with local arts organizations, galleries, or professionals.

Student Engagement & Culture

• Foster a studio-based classroom environment that emphasizes creativity, discipline, and critique.

Required Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, or related field (Master’s preferred)
• Teaching certification (or ability to obtain certification in Maryland)
• Experience teaching high school students (preferred)
• Demonstrated ability in one or more visual arts disciplines (e.g., drawing, painting, digital media, design, sculpture)
• Interest or experience in developing AP Art & Design or advanced-level coursework

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience building or expanding an arts program
• Experience supporting student portfolios for college or AP submission
• Familiarity with digital tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, digital illustration, photography)

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Design, plan, and execute informative and engaging lesson plans for the subject area using a variety of teaching techniques and appealing to various learners.
• Prepare lesson materials, assignments, and tests to evaluate, grade, and correct student performance.
• Utilizes a variety of assessment tools to evaluate student learning, including formative and summative assessment.
• Collaborates with instructional staff and provides feedback to students, parents, and administration regarding student progress, goals, and expectations.
• Supports the implementation of our Corporate Work Study Curriculum in annual planning and daily lesson plans.
• Enthusiastically participates in professional development activities designed to support professional growth.
• Commitment to social justice and serving the DBCR community with time and talent outside of the classroom, including sponsoring student organizations, participating in events, and other related activities.
• Maintains accurate, up-to-date student records, adhering to required policies and procedures.
• Develops and maintains a safe and inviting classroom environment conducive to learning. Monitors appropriate use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Actively monitor students in the hallways, cafeteria, restrooms, and other common areas during transition bells and breaks.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in related subject area; Master’s degree and teaching certification preferred (required to be state certified in DC, MD, or VA 3 years from date of hire).
• Previous teaching experience in related subject required; 2-4 years of experience preferred.
• Demonstrated understanding of educational technology integration in the classroom.
• Demonstrated understanding of effective teaching strategies for different learning styles and aptitudes.
• Experience and sensitivity to working in a diverse multi-cultural environment.

Work Environment:

• Work schedule flexibility required. Must be able to attend various co-curricular activities and events throughout the school year.
• Work hours generally follow the school schedule and calendar. A typical workday starts at 7:30 AM.
• Limited travel may be required.
