About the job Asphalt Plant Superintendent - Airfield Pavement (U.S. Citizen/Green Card only)
Cakum Global is looking for an Asphalt Plant Superintendent for an Airfield Asphalt Construction role with our client on a remote U.S. island in the Pacific. The role is a full-time independent contractor role for a period of 4 to 5 years.
Our client is seeking an experienced Asphalt Plant Superintendent with 35 years in a superintendent or equivalent leadership role to take full 24/7 responsibility for a high-output Marini Top Tower TT3000 (240 t/hr) batch asphalt plant, integrated quarry/crushing spread, and weighbridge operations on a remote U.S. island in the Pacific.
This is a hands-on leadership position ideal for a proven performer ready to step up and own production, quality, safety, and costs in a demanding, remote environment.
Must hold legal right to work in the United States without sponsorship (U.S. citizen or permanent resident strongly preferred for base-access requirements).
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Deliver consistent 1,200+ tons of specification-compliant hot-mix asphalt per 10-hour shift, 6 days/week.
- Own daily QC/QA lab operations and ensure all mixes exceed project requirements.
- Operate and maintain the Marini Top Tower TT3000 batch plant (burner, baghouse, RAP system, silos, controls) and perform predictive/preventive maintenance.
- Oversee crushing circuit: primary jaw, secondary/tertiary cones, screens, conveyors, and raw material feed to cold bins.
- Oversee weighbridge/ticketing operations, load-out accuracy, truck cycle times, and inventory reconciliation.
- Support Site Manager to run a team of ±32 personnel (operators, mechanics, electricians, loaders, truck drivers, lab techs, groundmen).
- Direct reports: Plant Foreman, Crusher Foreman, Maintenance Supervisor, QC Manager, Weighbridge Supervisor, Safety Officer.
- Handle rosters, training, performance reviews, and disciplinary actions.
- Drive a zero lost-time incident safety culture, daily toolbox talks, weekly safety meetings, and monthly audits.
- Ensure full compliance with OSHA, MSHA (if applicable), USACE EM385-1-1, and local regulations.
- Control costs and deliver monthly P&L for asphalt and aggregate production (fuel, power, labor, spares).
- Submit accurate daily/weekly production reports to the Project Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE
- Minimum 3-5 years as Asphalt Batch Plant Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent on 200+ t/hr batch plants (Marini experience highly advantageous).
- Proven track record in starting up and reliably running a modern batch plant at high production rates.
- Strong hands-on experience with crusher circuits (jaw, cone, screens) and quarry feed systems.
- Solid troubleshooting skills in electrical systems, burners, baghouses, and plant automation.
- Demonstrated leadership of 20+ person crews in remote or high-intensity environments.
- Excellent safety leadership with verifiable zero or near-zero LTI performance.
- Valid U.S. drivers license.
- Legal right to work in the United States without sponsorship (U.S. citizen or Green Card).
- U.S. Security Clearance not required, but advantageous.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
- The role is considered 'unaccompanied'; however, the contractor may bring their family at their own expense.
- Client will provide accommodation and local transport.
- Client will provide (for the contractor only) flights at the start and end of contract (subject to having completed a client-determined period of employment). The contractor is responsible for all other flights.
- As an independent contractor role, the successful candidate would be responsible for arranging their own insurances, etc.
- Any leave taken is unpaid and negotiated individually.
- The location is a remote, sparsely populated island with limited amenities. Therefore, the contractor must be comfortable with operating in relative isolation and able to adapt to the local environment. The opportunity exists to access superior amenities, a short flight from the location (at contractor's expense during down-time or leave).
