Assembly Support Lead

Description:

RAM Aviation, Space & Defense is a leader in aerospace innovation, powering flight and space exploration with precision solenoids, valves, and actuators. Since 1975, we’ve supported missions like the Space Shuttle and continue to deliver mission-critical components for commercial, defense, and satellite systems. As one of Southern Utah’s largest employers, we drive economic growth and offer high-skilled careers in engineering and manufacturing. From our advanced facility in St. George, we build the future of aerospace—on time, with excellence, and as a team. Join us to work on groundbreaking technology and help shape the future of flight and space exploration. Your career takes off here!

As the Assembly Support Lead, you are the right hand to our Value Stream Supervisors and a leader-in-training. This position is explicitly designed as a stepping stone; we are looking for a designated successor who is eager to grow into a future management role. You will balance the tactical needs of the floor—ensuring materials are flowing, audits are complete, and metrics are met—with the human side of leadership, such as fostering trust and engagement among your peers. If you are an experienced manufacturing professional ready to step up, learn the business of production, and help lead a high-performing team to success, this is your runway.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Leadership Continuity: Act as the primary backup for the Value Stream Supervisor. You will step in to lead daily operations and manage the team’s activities during supervisor absences.
  • Material & Inventory Logistics: Ensure the assembly line never stops due to missing parts. You will support the issuing of materials, manage physical material movements, and review/approve return-to-stock items.
  • Audit & Accuracy: Support the auditing of production floor materials to ensure strict inventory accuracy and cost control.
  • Performance Analysis: Develop an in-depth knowledge of production performance metrics. You will assist the area Supervisor in analyzing data, identifying "gaps" in missed goals, and executing plans to close those gaps.
  • Team Engagement & Culture: Build deep trust and camaraderie on the floor. You will be a sounding board for the team, remaining open to new ideas and fostering a collaborative, positive culture.
  • Safety Champion: Actively support and maintain a safe, productive work environment, identifying potential hazards and ensuring the team follows safety protocols.
Requirements:
  • Legal: Must be able to pass a comprehensive criminal background check and drug screening.
  • ITAR: Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum (due to ITAR requirements).
  • Experience: 2+ years of prior experience in assembly, material handling, or manufacturing operations. Demonstrated ability to informally lead, train, or mentor others is highly preferred.
  • Logistics & Data: Ability to handle material transactions and a willingness to learn how to track and analyze production metrics. Basic computer proficiency (ERP basics, Microsoft Office) is required.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills. You must be able to give clear direction to your peers while maintaining strong working relationships.
  • Physical Demands: Able to lift up to 50lbs. Must be able to stand, sit, and use hands/fingers for extended periods. Must be able to lift and carry moderately heavy parts or toolboxes as needed.
