Assessment Center Specialist
Juvenile Crisis & Assessment Center – Butner, NC
Starting Salary Range: $44,000 - 48,000, based on experience and education

Operated by Methodist Home for Children (MHC) in partnership with the North Carolina Department of Public Safety, our Juvenile Crisis & Assessment Center provides comprehensive residential assessments designed to match youth with the most appropriate services in their communities. The center serves Level II offenders between the ages of 10 and 17, helping them take meaningful steps toward stability and success.
We are seeking an organized, compassionate, and detail-oriented Assessment Center Specialist to join our Butner team. This is a great opportunity for college graduates with backgrounds in human services, psychology, criminal justice, social work, or administration who want to make a meaningful impact while building professional experience.
The Assessment Center Specialist coordinates the referral, admission, and discharge process for youth entering the center. Key responsibilities include:
Receiving and coordinating referrals from consumers and court services
Assessing referrals for appropriateness and gathering required information
Serving as the primary liaison for families and court services during the admission process
Conducting intake interviews and completing assessment documentation
Managing data tracking, record retrieval, and information sharing
Coordinating discharge planning and follow-up communication
Supporting overall administrative and assessment-related processes within the center
Qualified candidates must:
Be at least 21 years old
Possess a Bachelor’s degree and two years of relevant experience in the human services field
Demonstrate strong organizational, writing, editing, and computer skills
Have the ability to communicate effectively with families, court personnel, and service providers
Hold a valid driver’s license
Successfully complete required screenings, trainings, and an unarmed self-defense course required for all facility staff
Experience working with youth ages 11–17 is a plus.
