Assistant Accountant

Location: Lahore, Pakistan (Office-Based)
Reporting To: Finance Manager / Senior Accountant (UK)
Employment Type: Full-Time
Working Hours: UK Business Hours (9:00am to 6:00pm)

About the Role

We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Assistant Accountant to join our finance team. This position is based in Pakistan and will support the accounting and financial operations of our UK business. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the Accounts Department, with primary responsibility for assisting with VAT compliance and providing day-to-day accounting support. Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and assist with the submission of UK VAT returns, ensuring compliance with HMRC requirements and statutory deadlines.
  • Reconcile VAT control accounts and investigate any discrepancies.
  • Ensure accurate VAT treatment of purchase and sales transactions.
  • Process purchase ledger and sales ledger transactions accurately and promptly.
  • Perform bank, supplier, customer, and intercompany reconciliations.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end accounting processes.
  • Prepare journals, accruals, and prepayments as required.
  • Assist in the preparation of management accounts and financial reports.
  • Support the finance team with budgeting and forecasting activities where required.
  • Maintain accurate accounting records and ensure supporting documentation is complete and up to date.
  • Assist with internal and external audits by providing relevant financial information.
  • Respond to finance-related queries from suppliers, customers, and internal departments.
  • Support the implementation and improvement of finance processes and controls.
  • Carry out general finance administration and any other duties appropriate to the role.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience Essential

  • Previous experience in an accounting or finance role. (1-2 years)
  • Good understanding of UK VAT principles and accounting procedures.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience using accounting software (such as Sage, Xero, QuickBooks, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar).
  • Excellent numerical and analytical skills.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Desirable

  • AAT qualified or studying towards ACCA, CIMA, or ACA.
  • Experience preparing and submitting VAT returns.
  • Experience working within a UK SME or multi-company environment.
