Overview

DSG Outerwear is looking for a versatile assistant apparel designer who can blend both creative and technical design into developing women's apparel and accessories for our outdoor clothing brand. You’ll be at the forefront of design, utilizing your skills in Adobe Creative Suite and CAD to bring concepts from initial sketches to finished products. With Fit-Fashion-Function at the heart of our brand, we are looking for someone who can successfully translate the product design and style vision into a consistent fit and quality level through the application of accurate technical specification packets. This role will support product development within calendar deadlines. This position offers generous benefits and is conveniently located directly off the interstate in our Madison, Wisconsin headquarters.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Apparel Design, Technical Design, Textiles, or related field required.
  • 1+ years of experience in technical design or a related role preferred.
  • Understanding of fabric, garment construction, manufacturing, and patterning skills. Familiarity with women’s plus sizes is a bonus.
  • Expertise in Adobe Suite and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent prioritization and organizational skills with strong written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to quickly and easily transition from one task to the next.
  • Knowledge of packaging and label design welcomed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the design and development of women’s apparel and accessories, ensuring alignment with brand standards and seasonal direction.
  • Create detailed technical flat sketches, tech packs, and artwork for complex styles.
  • Assist in fit sessions, capturing detailed notes and providing feedback for factory corrections.
  • Manage and update Illustrator line plans and Excel tech packs to ensure accuracy and version control.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to review design samples, ensuring quality, fit, and brand consistency across categories.
  • Participate in market and trend research, providing insights that drive innovative design and competitive positioning.
  • Support approvals for lab dips, strike-offs, trims, packaging, and labeling.
  • Conduct occasional in-house product testing to validate performance and fit.
  • Assist in showroom organization, sample tracking, and sales presentation preparation.
  • Assist in styling for photoshoots, ensuring that each piece is presented in its best light.
  • Maintain strict adherence to product development calendars and deliverables.
  • Occasional travel as needed.
