Title: Assistant Area Manager

Reports to: Area Manager

Direct Reports: Supervisors, Cashiers, Food Service Workers, and Utility Workers

FSLA Exemption: Salaried - Exempt

Division: (QSR)

Location: Multiple Locations (Win Kitchen, Subway B/C, Subway E)


Summary:
Supervises the restaurant’s staff and assists the Area Manager with running the daily operations of Win Kitchen and, Subway B/C & E, by ensuring that food safety, proper product preparation, cleanliness, and inventory control standards are maintained. The Assistant Area Manager is expected to work to maintain an enjoyable work environment (boost employee morale/increase job satisfaction). Exceptional customer service is a major component of this position.


Duties
and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Responsible for ensuring staff compliance with government regulations, company policies, unit procedures/brand standards and MarketPlace (airport) policies.
  • Ensures that the staff greets customers in cheerful, friendly, and helpful manner.
  • Resolves any customer complaints or service issues not resolved by the supervisors.
  • Conducts and/or assist Area Manager with conducting pre-shift meetings for the purpose of informing the staff of the restaurant’s goals, product information, changes to food preparation formulas or other procedures, marketing promotions, and other pertinent information as well as delegating tasks.
  • Adheres to and ensures compliance with the company’s cash handling policies. This includes verifying cash registers drawers and making change. Responsible for performing the cash handling/management duties (reconciliation and bank deposits).
  • Assists the Area Manager with ensuring that the cleaning task lists, and the maintenance procedures as outlined in the Standard Operations Manual are completed.
  • Maintains a safe and sanitary environment on the front line, prep area, and food storage areas.
  • Ensures that the temperature (morning and evening) and waste logs are properly completed.
  • Records and ensures that employees and complimentary meals are in the POS system.
  • Responsible for the receipt of inventory orders. Must reconcile delivery with orders, enter received inventory into the POS and file delivery packing slips.
  • On a weekly basis, counts, reconciles, and records inventory quantities.
  • Analyzes sales data for the purpose of making recommendations for making decisions regarding scheduling/staffing.
  • The duties and responsibilities listed are the essential functions for this position.
  • Prepares and posts weekly work schedules for utilizing sales data while adhering to the designated payroll budget. This includes addressing any request for schedule changes.
  • Oversees the catering order process. This includes ensuring that inventory and staff are available to fulfill orders; providing responses to clients regarding order fulfillment and pricing; and assigning staff to prepare and/or deliver orders.
  • Inform the Area Manager of any inventory needs or maintenance issues.
  • Consults with the Area Manager regarding any unresolved staff issues and/or customer complaints.
  • Participates in the selection of new staff by interviewing candidates and providing recommendations regarding which candidates will move to the next phase of the hiring process.
  • Oversees the new hire orientation process. This includes submitting new hire information to HR, scheduling badging and fingerprinting appointments, and facilitating and scheduling new hire training. To ensure that all new hires complete the new hire trainings within the Learning Management system within 30 days of hire.
  • Coordinates the scheduling of performance improvement (performance review process).
  • Manages the credentialing process. This includes ensuring that all required employees are ServSafe trained and tracking the expiration of certifications.
  • Customer Service training(s). Also responsible for ensuring that the completed training(s) are recorded.
  • Maintains bulletin board. This includes posting job opportunities available within the company, updated labor posters, and employee benefit information.
  • Completes paperwork, performs administrative duties, and assists with product and supply orders as needed.
  • In the absence of the Area Manager, acts as Area Manager.
  • Assists with the planning of special events and promotions.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned to support departmental and organizational needs.


Qualifications:

Education/Experience:


Associate degree or three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous food service industry and/or Quick Serve Restaurant (QSR) experience is required. Previous supervisory experience required.


Specialized Training and Other Requirements:


Must maintain a ServSafe Manager certification. Must complete part I and part II of the Workplace Harassment Training for Employees and Managers within two weeks of hire. Also, must complete additional training as required by Market Place. TSA security clearance required. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule including weekends, nights, and weekends.


Supervisory
Responsibilities:


Carries out management responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Manages two to four front line supervisors (team managers) and a staff consisting of 15 to 20 employees. Responsibilities include assisting with the selection of new employees and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.


Language Ability:


Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.


Math Ability:


Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations is required. Must be able to perform basic math calculations.


Reasoning Ability:


Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and develop solutions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.


Computer Skills:


To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of word processing software; spreadsheet software; point of sale system and e-mail systems. Online order or data entry may also be required.

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate (fast food restaurant setting). Occasionally this position may be required to work in a cold environment (walk in freezer).
