Assistant AVP of Technology Services

Overview

Gardner-Webb University is seeking an experienced and highly motivated technology leader to serve as the Assistant Associate Vice President for Technology Services. This key position supports the AVP/CIO in ensuring efficient daily operations, managing critical technology resources, and helping guide the strategic direction of the Technology Services department.

The ideal candidate will be a collaborative problem-solver with strong organizational, financial, and communication skills—someone who thrives in a dynamic university environment and is committed to delivering outstanding services to students, faculty, and staff.

Key Responsibilities

The Assistant Associate Vice President for Technology Services will:

Operational Leadership

  • Support the AVP/CIO in the daily operational management of Technology Services.
  • Maintain smooth and reliable delivery of technology services across campus.
  • Refine and enhance departmental processes to improve efficiency and service quality.

Budget, Procurement, and Licensing Oversight

  • Coordinate and manage departmental budgets and forecasting.
  • Oversee procurement of hardware, software, services, and technology solutions.
  • Manage licensing inventories, renewals, vendor agreements, and technology contracts.
  • Identify opportunities for cost optimization and improved purchasing value.

Strategic Planning & Execution

  • Assist in developing and implementing strategic initiatives that enhance the university’s technology environment.
  • Provide analysis, reports, and recommendations to support decision-making.
  • Collaborate on long-term planning, technology governance, and policy development.

Campus Collaboration

  • Work with academic and administrative leaders to understand needs and deliver technology-enabled business solutions.
  • Facilitate communication between Technology Services and university departments.
  • Recommend improvements to processes, systems, and infrastructure based on stakeholder needs.

Team Leadership & Supervision

  • Supervise and mentor the Graduate Assistant, TechServices Helpdesk/Operations Coordinator, and student workers.
  • Ensure helpdesk and operations teams deliver high-quality support.
  • Foster a positive, customer-centered service culture.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in IT operations, project management, or technology leadership.
  • Strong budgeting, procurement, and vendor management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.

Preferred:

  • Experience in higher education IT environments.
  • Familiarity with enterprise licensing, contract management, and strategic planning.
  • Experience supervising student workers or support teams.
