Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Assistant <PERSON> / Set Designer to join our creative production team. In this role, you will collaborate closely with the lead designer and production staff to bring imaginative concepts to life through meticulous set construction, installation, and restoration in our gigantic haunted house Scream Dreams. Your expertise in carpentry, fabrication, and construction will be essential in transforming artistic visions into tangible realities. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to work on diverse projects, utilizing a broad skill set that spans from blueprint reading to heavy lifting, ensuring each set is crafted with precision and creativity.
Responsibilities
- Assist in interpreting and executing design schematics, blueprints, and technical drawings to construct and assemble set components.
- Perform carpentry tasks including framing, trim carpentry, metal stud framing, door hanging, cabinet installation, and fixture setup.
- Cleaning, assisting, landscaping, and other required duties.
- Operate hand tools, power tools, CNC machinery, and fabrication equipment safely and efficiently to build set pieces.
- Contribute to construction estimating by providing accurate measurements and material needs for various projects.
- Handle heavy lifting and physical tasks such as rebar installation, concrete forming, roofing, masonry work, siding, and flooring installation.
- Install and secure set elements including doors, fixtures, siding, drywall (plastering/stucco), mold remediation components, and electrical fixtures as needed.
- Support restoration efforts by performing water damage remediation, mold remediation, painting (construction painting), plastering, caulking, and general site cleanup.
- Assist with remodeling projects involving tile laying, flooring installation, electrical work, plumbing integration, masonry repairs, and metal framing.
- Ensure all work complies with safety standards and follows schematics or technical instructions accurately.
- Support the team during setup and breakdown of sets at various locations while maintaining a safe working environment.
Requirements
- Proven experience in construction site work or related fields such as carpentry, manufacturing, or restoration industry experience.
- Proficiency with hand tools, power tools (including CNC machines), scaffolding systems, and fabrication equipment.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and efficiently for extended periods.
- Familiarity with various construction disciplines such as framing (wooden or metal), roofing, masonry, plumbing, electrical systems, drywall installation (including plastering/stucco), tile laying, flooring installation, siding application, cabinet installation and door hanging.
- Experience in water damage restoration or mold remediation is a plus.
- Knowledge of schematics or technical drawings relevant to set construction is highly desirable.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a keen eye for detail; ability to adapt quickly on dynamic project sites.
