JOB DESCRIPTION:


Assist the Choir Director in the teaching of vocal music. (Grade 7-8).



DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach full choir classes in grades 7-8.
  • Participate in required activities for the year which includes: TMEA All Region Choir Auditions, TMEA All State participation, UIL Concert and Sight-reading Contest and UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest.
  • Conduct concert programs both in the Fall and Spring Semester.
  • Attend all activities in which their students participate.
  • Attend all TMEA/UIL region meetings in the Fall and Spring and will become active in as many region activities as appropriate.
  • Provide regular opportunities for individual and small group instruction outside the school day (i.e., weekly sectionals, master classes, individual help sessions on auditions, solo/ensemble preparation).
  • Attend all extra sectionals, rehearsals, concerts, etc. required of their students, due to participation in All region and All State Choir, etc. or provide a qualified substitute.
  • Interact with the Intermediate School and Junior High School Choir/Music staff as part of a continual program.
  • Responsible for the organizational requirements of the program.
  • Maintain regular attendance.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

ASSIGNMENTS TO VIRTUAL INSTRUCTION:

  • Seamlessly integrate District-approved online learning platforms and required software into the planning, delivery, and support of virtual instruction.
  • Plan, prepare, implement, and evaluate lessons and activities during the standard work hours of the campus at which the teacher is assigned, as well as prolonged or irregular hours.
  • Be able to communicate with students, parents, and campus and District personnel during the standard work hours of the campus at which the teacher is assigned, as well as prolonged or irregular hours.
  • Adhere to all professional responsibilities and deadlines including professional communication and responsiveness.
  • Be flexible, responsive, and positive with students, parents, and staff.
  • Effectively translate CISD Best Practices into the virtual instructional setting.
  • Regularly attend and apply District-approved professional development in the most up-to-date practices associated with virtual instruction.
  • Accurately and timely obtain and report required student data, including attendance, grades, etc.
  • Dress professionally as you would if you were offering instruction to students in a traditional, in-person setting.
  • Teach and interact with students from a quiet space, free from distraction, where appropriate confidentiality rules can be followed.
  • Create a virtual classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Provide small group and tutoring opportunities for students who are experiencing difficulty in their learning.
  • Support any extracurricular activities for which you are responsible according to District guidelines.
  • Attend all required campus and district meetings.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Applicants must demonstrate a proficiency in all areas of vocal music- vocal styles, choral techniques, and sight-reading
  • Applicants should have extensive experience in solo work as well as in small and large ensemble performance situations
  • Applicants must have experience with chamber choir and “show” choir

QUALIFICATIONS:


Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor of Music Education from an accredited University
  • Music Certification – Texas Certificate K-12

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Applicants for all grades should have adequate keyboard skills
  • Applicants for all grades must demonstrate proficiency with vocal skills

  • Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals; piano, audiovisual equipment and choir related instruments
  • Posture: Prolonged standing, frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling and twisting

  • Lifting: Regular moderate lifting and carrying, may lift and move musical instruments, move small stacks of textbooks, desk and other classroom equipment
  • Environment: May work outside and inside, work on uneven or slippery surfaces, frequent exposure to noise
  • Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours
