FLSA Status: Exempt
Experience Required: Legal/Court room preferred but not required
Minimum Education Requirements: J.D. issued by accredited law school
Direct Supervisor: Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney
Primary Work Location: Office/court room setting
Physical requirements: This is mostly sedentary work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects.
Certification: License to practice law in Virginia

Job Summary
The successful candidate will prepare and prosecute felony and misdemeanor cases in district and circuit courts, including pre-trial motions through the conclusion of the appellate process. Effective verbal and written communication skills are necessary along with the ability to comfortably exercise discretion in carrying out assigned duties.

  • Prepare cases for prosecution
  • Interview witnesses
  • Interact with members of the public
  • Advise law enforcement officers
  • Prosecute criminal charges in a court room setting
  • Research legal issues
