SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE
Under the direction of the Comptroller, the Assistant Comptroller supports and oversees the organization’s accounting operations, financial reporting, and internal control processes. This role performs advanced-level work to ensure the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of financial activities in accordance with GAAP, 2 CFR Part 200 (Uniform Guidance), Texas Grant Management Standards (TxGMS), and TWC Financial Manual for Grants and Contracts (FMGC).
This position works with considerable independence and plays a key role in supporting financial oversight of multiple federal, state, and local funding streams.
Role and Responsibilities
The Assistant Comptroller is expected to actively manage and support core financial functions, ensuring timely execution of accounting activities, reliable reporting, and effective coordination across departments. This role works closely with program, operations, and leadership teams to translate financial data into meaningful insights, support informed decision-making, and ensure funds are utilized efficiently. The position also plays a key role in monitoring financial performance, identifying variances and trends, and supporting continuous improvement efforts that strengthen financial processes, accountability, and overall organizational effectiveness.

Experience and Education Requirements
Bachelor’s degree with major coursework in accounting, finance, or a related field and four (4) years of professional accounting or financial management experience, including two (2) years of supervisory experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
Knowledge of financial administration, budget control, and fiscal accounting; of governmental accounting; of budget control methods, policies, and procedures; and of laws and regulations pertaining to fiscal operations.
Skill in the use of a computer and applicable software.
Ability to direct accounting programs, budget funds, set up accounting systems, interpret laws and regulations, apply accounting theory, communicate effectively, and supervise the work of others.
Confidence in public speaking and presenting to both small and large groups.
