Assistant Controller

Job Summary:

The Assistant Controller will supervise, track, and evaluate day-to-day accounting activities, along with assisting in establishing, developing and implementing systems for collecting, analyzing, verifying and reporting information.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Oversee daily accounting functions, including general ledger maintenance, accounts payable and accounts receivable.

Manage and train accounting department staff.

Ensure there is a redundant backup process in place for critical operations.

Ensure accurate and timely month end close and financial reporting.

Maintain robust internal controls to protect assets, ensure compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs) and manager tax, permits and licenses are followed.

Create, distribute, and maintain daily, weekly, and monthly key performance indicator reports to management

Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure

Handles daily bank reconciliation.

Handles monthly balance sheet reconciliation.

Certify all local and state taxes are deposited timely and that related reports are filed on a timely basis

Accountable for guaranteeing timely and accurate deposits of all cash, check and credit card receipts

Oversee accuracy of Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable process.

Review accounting entries prepared by direct reports to ensure accurate and timely entry

Prepares month-end reconciliations to ensure balance sheet and operating statements are accurate

Analyze current processes and utilize applications and resources to identify opportunities for efficiency

Lead, participate and contribute to other duties as requested

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting

5+ years of accounting experience in the hotel industry

Experience working in accounting systems

Thorough knowledge of U.S. GAAP (USALI)

Strong analytical abilities, high attention to details and excellent organizational skills required

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Superb interpersonal, supervisory and customer service skills

Preferred Qualifications:

Opera Cloud and Micros experience a plus

NetSuite experience a plus

Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills

Google Apps experience a plus

Physical Requirements:

Ability to carry, push, move and lift large, bulky and/or heavy objects up to 30 pounds

Ability to perform tasks that may require prolonged standing, repetitive bending, and other physical activities
