Assistant Controller

Full-Time | Exempt

Reports To: Chief Financial Officer

UBA is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Assistant Controller to support the organization’s accounting operations and financial reporting functions. This leadership role assists the Controller in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial data, maintaining compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements, and strengthening internal controls.

The Assistant Controller plays a key role in managing accounting staff, overseeing financial close processes, and driving continuous improvement within the finance department.

• Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements

• Oversee month-end and year-end close processes

• Review journal entries, reconciliations, and general ledger activity

• Ensure timely and accurate reporting in accordance with GAAP

• Supervise accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general accounting functions

• Maintain and improve accounting policies and procedures

• Monitor cash flow and support treasury functions

• Ensure compliance with tax regulations and filings

• Assist in developing and maintaining internal control systems

• Support audit processes and coordinate with external auditors

• Ensure compliance with regulatory and financial reporting requirements

• Support annual budgeting and forecasting processes

• Analyze financial results and provide variance explanations

• Prepare management reports and detailed financial analysis

• Supervise and mentor accounting staff

• Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy

• Assist with ERP/accounting system enhancements and integrations

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required, MBA Preferred

• 5–8+ years of progressive accounting experience in the medical industry

• Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards

• Experience with month-end close and audit preparation

• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

• Excellent organizational and time-management abilities

• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines

• Strong written and verbal communication skills

• Leadership experience supervising accounting staff

• Primarily office-based (or remote, if applicable)

• Occasional extended hours during month-end, year-end, or audit periods
