Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Assistant Controller specializing in Construction to join our finance team. In this vital role, you will oversee financial operations related to construction projects, ensuring accurate accounting practices, compliance with regulatory standards, and efficient financial management. Your expertise will support project budgeting, cost analysis, and financial reporting, helping us maintain transparency and fiscal responsibility across all construction activities. Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee all aspects of construction-related accounting, including general ledger maintenance, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and project cost tracking.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards such as GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards), and regulatory requirements specific to the construction industry.
- Conduct detailed cost accounting analysis to monitor project budgets, variances, and profitability metrics.
- Lead the financial close process for construction projects, including balance sheet reconciliations and journal entries.
- Prepare comprehensive financial reports and statements that accurately reflect project performance and overall financial health.
- Implement and maintain robust accounting systems and software such as Sage, Xero, QuickBooks, or similar platforms to streamline financial operations.
- Collaborate with internal teams on forecasting, budgeting, and cash management strategies to optimize treasury functions and ensure liquidity needs are met.
- Supervise and develop a team of accounting professionals dedicated to construction finance functions.
- Ensure adherence to SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act) controls and other internal audit requirements for financial integrity.
- Support regulatory reporting efforts related to governmental or non-profit funding sources when applicable.
Experience
- Proven experience in financial management within the construction industry or a related field with a strong understanding of construction project accounting principles.
- Demonstrated expertise in managing accounting teams and leading complex financial processes in fast-paced environments.
- Extensive knowledge of GAAP, IFRS, regulatory compliance accounting, and technical accounting standards relevant to construction projects.
- Hands-on experience with accounting software such as Sage, Xero, QuickBooks or similar platforms; proficiency in Excel data analysis is essential.
- Strong background in cost analysis, budget forecasting, cash flow management, and financial reporting for large-scale projects.
- Familiarity with SOX compliance procedures and internal control frameworks is highly desirable.
- Ability to interpret financial concepts clearly and communicate findings effectively through detailed reports and presentations.
