Assistant Cook - Remote Lodge

Looking for someone to join our team that we can train to assist our head cook in the kitchen this June - September. We pride ourselves on serving exquisite meals for our guests where high-end customer service is key. Some experience is required but it's more important that you have a teachable spirit, a hard work ethic, and a great attitude! This is an internship style position to provide you with real world experience and jumpstart your culinary career. We are ideally looking for someone who we can train into our head cook position and wants to come back year after year.

Experience one of Alaska's most historic and premier wilderness lodges while expanding your culinary resume'. Rainy Pass Lodge is located in the heart of the Alaska Mountain Range, 125 air miles Northwest of Anchorage, this is a fly-out only lodge that caters to a variety of guests. We have a great crew returning this summer who love this lifestyle, we work hard and play hard and are looking for an edition to our team. You'll live, work, and play at the lodge and there are many opportunities for a variety of activities during your down time including, horseback rides, canoe, kayaking, paddle boarding, archery, shooting sports, hikes, berry picking, yard games, floating sauna and much more. All at one of Alaska's most beautiful settings.

We will help to set you up for success, train and support you along the way, but some previous cooking experience is required. Kitchen work includes assisting the head cook with all their tasks including dishes, prepping food, cleaning etc. Planning and preparing 3 meals a day plus deserts and baked goods (we have recipes and you're welcome to do some of your own as well), re-ordering food, keeping kitchen and dining room clean and other associated tasks as arise to run a successful kitchen. We run a variety of guests through our lodge and the numbers you'll be cooking for will change from a low of just staff (10) to a full camp of maybe (25 or 30+).

Typical work schedule will be 6 days a week with breaks throughout the day if you schedule your workload properly. There will most likely be some busy times we're you'll have to work on the 7th day as well, but we try to make up for it when things slow down. With short seasons, we have to work when the guests are here. Flexibility is important to provide our guests with the best service possible.

Having a good attitude is the most important aspect we can look for in an employee as our lodge mantra is "Attitude is Everything!" Working remote sometimes means figuring out how to make do with what you have, although we are typically very well stocked up (planning and ordering ahead of time helps assure this). Having a good work ethic, being organized and working well with others are vital.

We are off the grid and provide our own power. There is no cell service but we have satellite wi-fi for emails, texting etc. (very limited streaming or downloading movies). There is running water, regular bathrooms with showers, washer/dryers etc.

We are a drug free (including pot), non smoking facility.

Your room and board are including as part of your pay during the work season and is a major cost for us, as being remote it costs us about $4500 a month just to have one person out there with food costs. We will pay for your charter flights to and from the lodge and Anchorage at the beginning and end of your season, this is also a large cost for us as a one-way beaver trip costs about $2000.
