Under the direct supervision of the Coordinator II — Public Relations, Communications, & Marketing the Assistant Coordinator — Marketing (Communications & Outreach) oversees ASI’s communication needs in the development and implementation of the ASI brand, events, procedures, and social media marketing strategy with an emphasis in copywriting, social media strategy, ASI website development and management, and outreach coordination. This position oversees the student marketing assistants responsible for supporting these efforts.
Additionally, all ASI employees are responsible for upholding the core values of the organization including but not limited to exhibiting professional behavior, acting as a role model to others, displaying a positive and cooperative attitude, communicating effectively, developing expert knowledge in area of specialization, and working together as a team.
Requirements
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Graduation from a four-year college or university preferred (8 years applicable experience may be substituted for educational requirement).

Minimum one (1) year professional marketing and communications experience, three (3) years preferred that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the job.
- Thorough knowledge of correct English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
- General knowledge of office methods, equipment, procedures, and practices.
- Ability to be highly organized and have great time management and planning skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with copy accuracy.
- Proficient in content marketing and editing.
- Ability to define and deliver messages; ability to interview, research, and write compelling stories for web and print.
- Working knowledge of applicable laws pertaining to written and electronic materials, confidentiality, and news media, including libel/slander, copyright, and privacy laws.
- Ability to present information that meets the requirements of the media and publications involved and that is designed for audiences of varying interests.
- Demonstrated experience in social and digital media.
- Photography or photo editing experience preferred.
- Experience with marketing, advertising, journalism, or public relations preferred.
- Experience with administration, supervision, leadership, or management.
- Experience with ASI program participation preferred.
- General knowledge of ADA document creation and web compliance.
- General knowledge of program services.

- Supervise ASI Marketing Student Assistants.
- Facilitate meetings, conduct performance evaluations, establish goals, and monitor day-to-day operations.
- Assist with ensuring that all ASI program identity standards, professionalism, and consistency are maintained and met through collateral material, display cases, promotional material, and marketing information.
- Coordinate and/or assist with program area assessment efforts.
- Assist in the coordination of public relations and marketing for ASI programs and services.
- Work with Coordinator II — Public Relations, Communications, & Marketing to develop and implement creative and original marketing strategies and tactics.
- Collaborate with ASI graphic designers, photographers, and videographers on marketing campaigns and collateral material.
- Research and implement trends in marketing.
- Assist in determining the needs of the Cal Poly campus community through surveys, focus groups, etc.
- Adhere to and enforce all ASI departmental policies and procedures.
- Ensure a safe environment for all participants.
- Maintain familiarity with evacuation plan for work area.
- Provide marketing and communications consultation or training to student staff.
- Produce original copy for ASI Public Relations, Communications, & Marketing, including but not limited to print, digital, social media, public relations, and various marketing materials. This includes creating body copy, articles, web, and social media content, emails, newsletters, presentations, monthly and annual reports, video scripts, advertisements, and public relations materials.
- Edit copy for ASI Programs and ASI Managed-Facilities including emails, press releases, social media posts, digital and print assets, and various marketing materials.
- Create and disseminate digital content, including but not limited to the ASI website, apps, newsletters, press releases, and presentations for ASI programs and services.
- Responsible for monthly newsletter(s) and ASI Annual Report content.
- Provide crisis communication support.
- Assist with the development, implementation, and revisions of the ASI Marketing/Communication Plan.
- Manage the planning, creating, implementing, and monitoring the organization’s social media strategy to increase brand awareness, improve marketing efforts, and increase community collaborations.
- Administer ASI Social Media Marketing Strategy comprehensively across all managed social media platforms, including but not limited to Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
- Responsible for the research and management of analytics for social media and website platforms.
- Research and provide recommendations for digital marketing and social media strategy to ASI programs, ASI Managed-Facilities, and ASI Student Government
- Manage social media platforms (content creation and interaction).
- Assist in the planning and production of live social media content.
- Post and deliver marketing materials.
- Provide lead work direction as well as take and impart instructions.
- Provide quality customer service for all staff and customers.
- Assist in identifying, coordinating, and facilitating outreach opportunities on behalf of the organization including but not limited to on- or off-campus activities, special promotions, events, and presentations.
- Act as liaison and outreach facilitator between campus groups/clubs/residence halls, promotional agencies and ASI Programs.
- Collaborate with other program areas.
- Provide mentorship, training, and content coordination with program area and/or ASI Student Government social media liaisons/representatives.
- Responsible for weekly or monthly analytics reporting for social media platforms and the ASI website.
- Responsible for weekly, biweekly, monthly, or long-term social media strategy and planning.
- Research and provide recommendations for digital marketing and social media strategy to ASI programs, ASI Managed-Facilities, and ASI Student Government.
- Develop and execute assessment of programs and/or services for areas of responsibility including, but not limited to, setting and implementing goals, evaluating outcomes, and ongoing enhancement.
- Participate in the overall ASI assessment planning and goal setting.
- Represent ASI on committees as appropriate.
- Attend and participate in meetings as necessary.
- Ensure continuous professional development.
- The person holding this position is considered a "mandated reporter" under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in ASI policy as a condition of their employment.
