General Summary:
The Harris County Attorney's Office (HCAO) is hiring attorneys in several divisions. Join us to grow your career in public service and make a difference in ensuring good government.
Starting salaries for attorneys are based on the total years of licensed law practice. Brand new attorneys start at $95K annually in our office, and more experienced attorneys are assessed individually to our internal pay scales and current incumbents.

HCAO represents the nation's third largest county, its elected officials, and 18,000 employees in state and federal litigation.
HCAO employees earn compensatory time for hours worked in excess of 40 hours per workweek, and attorney's are eligible for hybrid work, which currently allows most employees to work from home up to 3 days a week.
Work at HCAO also qualifies for student loan forgiveness programs.
Responsibilities:
· Develops and maintains relationships with clients (including elected officials, individual employees and agency representatives), courts and court staff, the public and other work groups related to assigned cases.
· Manages all aspects of assigned litigation such as drafting answers, issuing and responding to discovery, taking and defending depositions, motions practice to include dispositive motions, and other necessary court documents.
· Remains current on applicable caselaw and ethical obligations to ensure we advise clients to the best possible standards.
· Conducts research assignments.
· Encourages and mentors attorneys, paralegals, interns, and law clerks.
· Additional assignments vary by division and area of legal practice.

Qualifications
· A Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from an American Bar Association accredited college of law.
· Must be an active member in good standing of the Texas State Bar and eligible for admission to Federal court.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
· Proficiency with technology and legal tools such as Microsoft Office Suite, Westlaw, and Adobe.
· Analytical skills to include ability to perform thorough legal and factual analyses.
· Ability to exercise good judgment.
· Ability to organize and prioritize assignments to meet high pressure deadlines.
