Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site role for an Assistant Designer located in New York, NY. We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented designer with a strong foundation in women’s apparel, particularly in sweaters and cut & sew. The Assistant Designer will support the Senior and Design Directors across all stages of the design process—from concept development and CAD creation to sample tracking and final production handoff.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, collaborative, and passionate about design, with a strong eye for color, proportion, and fabric.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design and development of seasonal collections under the direction of the Senior Designer and Design Director.
  • Create and update CAD sketches, line sheets, and presentation boards.
  • Support in the preparation of tech packs and ensure design details are accurately communicated to cross-functional teams.
  • Research seasonal trends, color palettes, and fabric/yarn developments.
  • Manage sample tracking, organization of fabric libraries, trims, and materials.
  • Attend fittings and assist in communicating comments and revisions.
  • Collaborate closely with Product Development, Merchandising, and Technical Design teams to ensure design intent is executed through to production.
  • Maintain a high level of accuracy and organization across all design files and systems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design or a related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of professional experience in women’s apparel design, preferably within sweaters and cut & sew categories.
  • Strong proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and Microsoft Office.
  • Working knowledge of Tech Pack creation and garment construction.
  • Excellent sense of color, proportion, and fabric/yarn qualities.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize deadlines, and work in a fast-paced, creative environment.
  • Highly attentive to detail and organized.

Compensation$55,000 – $65,000 USD base salary (This range represents the low and high end of the anticipated base salary range for this NY-based position. The final salary will depend on factors such as experience, qualifications, and internal equity.)
