JOB TITLE: Assistant Director of Annual Giving

DEPARTMENT: Advancement

REPORTS TO: Director of Annual Giving

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The Assistant Director of Annual Giving helps to lay a critical foundation for the Dordt University development team by leading the university's annual giving program, which currently generates over $1 million annually. The assistant director co-develops and leads a comprehensive mult-channel annual fundraising, donor growth and retention strategy.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plans, organizes, and implements a series of annual giving initiatives with occasional evening work required.
  • Evaluates current programs and develops creative strategies for raising funds in an increasingly complex and dynamic donor environment.
  • Responsible for the direction and growth of the Defender Forever program.
  • Maintains and directs a team of student development representatives for the solicitation of annual fund support.
  • Develops and guides student managers to assist with leading student representatives.
  • Co-authors and designs annual fund marketing materials.
  • Assists in managing online annual giving strategies and initiatives.
  • Works jointly with the alumni office to develop and cultivate donor relations.
  • Performs other duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • A clear understanding and commitment to the Reformed perspective and mission of Dordt University and ability to clearly articulate and communicate the mission effectively.
  • Ability to express an active Christian commitment, which shall include identification with a local organized church that holds to beliefs that are consistent with the mission of the university.
  • Prospective members of the Dordt University community are expected to agree with its sexuality, gender identity, and sexual conduct policy which can be found on the DU website (contact the HR Office if you need additional information).
  • Bachelor of Arts degree required. 3-5 years of related experience is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training highly preferred.
  • Ability to interact with university faculty and staff, and a broad range of alumni and friends of Dordt University.
  • Familiarity with personal technology and social media best practices, with a willingness to collaborate with the marketing team on the content, timing, and channels for the bessaging and reach.
  • High level of creativity.
  • Skilled in evaluating and communicating the effectiveness of various programs.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to lead and direct a team of student employees.
  • Computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, and network applications.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
