Position Summary:

The Assistant Director of Annual Giving supports the advancement of Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Virginia’s mission and is an integral member of the resource development team. The Assistant Director of Annual Giving has an ability to act as general support in all areas of fundraising and should have a welcoming phone presence to receive donor inquiries. The Assistant Director of Annual Giving supports the implementation of special events and management of special event committees, along with general fundraising and stewardship events. The role includes proposal, newsletter, annual report, or additional letter writing support. The Assistant Director of Annual Giving must be able to multitask with a positive attitude.

The Assistant Director of Annual Giving needs excellent writing, editing, and problem-solving skills, experience in digital communications, knowledge of specialized software, and experience in fundraising strategy and implementation. Any specialized training in donor management software is highly desirable, along with graphic design and video editing skills. The Assistant Director of Annual Giving reports to the Director of Annual Giving.

Position Description:

  • Support the implementation of purposeful and mission-centered fundraising events through collaboration with Club stakeholders to manage pre- and post-event donor cultivation, acknowledgement and stewardship, committee management, coordinating function space and vendors, designing content for event communications, and event day logistics.
  • Work with the chief development officer to administer the Club’s tax credit program, coordinate paperwork, and serve as liaison with donor third-party financial representatives/wealth managers.
  • Conceptualize and produce meaningful and mission-centered stewardship activities and develop personalized stewardship plans.
  • Maintain specialized databases, compose correspondence, and research prospective donors.
  • Assist with writing and assembling mailings, solicitations, newsletters, annual reports, impact reports, and other materials for donor audiences.
  • Assist with donor and campaign management and tracking.
  • Manage third-party event and in-kind donation requests, involving appropriate staff.
  • Communicate with donors, volunteers, and vendors via phone, email, and in person.
  • Schedule and coordinate volunteer board and committee meetings and distribute materials for meetings as needed or requested.
  • Assist with accepting, recording, and responding to donations.
  • Integrate digital fundraising platforms with special events, stewardship, and individual giving.
  • Make occasional presentations to community groups and individuals on behalf of the mission.
  • Create and support opportunities, systems, and expectations that promote a human-centered organizational culture.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience in donor-centric events and volunteer management
  • 1-3 years of related experience, preferably in development or customer service
  • Donor management software experience
  • Microsoft Office expertise
  • Ability to work both independently and as an active team member
  • Ability to manage, prioritize, and execute multiple tasks and projects
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to collect, organize, and analyze data related to donor giving
  • Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information with integrity
  • Ability to accurately and effectively exchange information due to frequent communication with other organization personnel, external partners, grantors, and others
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed
  • Must have the ability to work in person and travel as needed to Club locations

Education and Certifications:

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

Physical Requirements and Work Conditions:

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for up to 75% of the work day
  • Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment such as copier, printer, filing cabinets, etc.
  • Ability to engage in substantial repetitive motion from typing or writing, etc.
  • Light work: ability to lift and/or move 20 lbs on occasion
  • Ability to be effective in an environment with varying levels of noise throughout the day
