Job Description

Assists the DOC in the implementation and evaluation of the nursing department quality improvement initiatives, risk management systems, data collection and analysis, report writing, procedural updates.

Takes the lead in the coordination and implementation of best practice and risk management initiatives related to resident care (i.e. falls, restraint use, wound management, Infection Control)

Effectively manages utilization of nursing supplies

Maintains a system of care assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation at the resident and unit program level that maximizes staff resources and contributes to Extendicare Eaux Claires interdisciplinary team approach to resident care

Maintains an active presence in the Resident Home Areas, mentoring staff while overseeing the provision of quality resident care
-
Initiates investigative and corrective actions related to occupational health and safety; develops and monitors modified work programs for nursing personnel

Works collaboratively with the Director of Care on special projects, reviews, and other duties as may be assigned

Assumes responsibility for the nursing department in the Director of Care’s absence.

To manage and oversee the IPAC program for the home.
-
To oversee the delivery of IPAC education to all staffs, caregivers, volunteers, and residents.

To audit IPAC practices in the home and maintain continuous quality improvement plan.

To conduct regular infectious disease surveillance.
-
To convene and participate with the outbreak team at the onset of an outbreak.

Review daily and monthly screening and conduct IPAC meetings.

Effectively supports the RAI-MDS program.

To facilitate RAI-MDS and application training, provide ongoing leadership and mentoring assisting with knowledge application to support data accuracy and proficiency of all users.

Implement processes that support identifying gaps/discrepancies and provide ongoing education to reinforce knowledge, promote capacity and enhance staff competency.

Generate RAI-MDS output reports and in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, facilitate their use in clinical and operational decision-making.

Monitor RAI-MDS assessments, resident assessment protocol/ clinical assessment protocols and care plan reviews for completion in accordance with required timelines and auditing the quality indicators documentation.

Qualifications
-
Registered Nurse: BScN preferred or Licensed Practical Nurse

Registration with College of Nurses of Alberta/ College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta
-
Minimum of three years experience in long term care; previous management experience an asset

Current knowledge of clinical issues for geriatric residents, infection control, principles of adult education and quality improvement

Knowledge of RAI MDS, experience in Point click care system and point of care is an asset.

Demonstrated superior leadership and organizational skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills

Computer skills: Microsoft Word; Excel, computerized resident care and assessment programs
-
Knowledge of applicable legislation, current nursing and healthcare practices; demonstrates concern and interest in providing quality care and service to residents
