La Puente is seeking a creative, organized, and relationship-driven professional to serve as our Assistant Director of Communications & Engagement. This position plays a key role in strengthening community support for La Puente's mission through storytelling, event coordination, social media management, marketing, and community outreach.
The ideal candidate is an excellent communicator who enjoys building relationships, coordinating events, creating engaging content, and representing a mission-driven organization throughout the San Luis Valley.
About La Puente
La Puente is a nonprofit organization serving Colorado's San Luis Valley by providing food, shelter, advocacy, and support services for individuals and families experiencing poverty, homelessness, hunger, and crisis. Since 1982, La Puente has worked to meet immediate needs while empowering people to live independently with dignity.
Primary Responsibilities
Communications & Marketing
- Manage and grow La Puente's social media presence.
- Create content for newsletters, press releases, publications, and marketing campaigns.
- Capture and share stories through writing, photography, video, and digital media.
- Design promotional materials including flyers, brochures, banners, and event resources.
- Assist with website updates and content management.
Community Engagement
- Represent La Puente at community events, presentations, and outreach opportunities.
- Build relationships with community partners, businesses, schools, churches, and civic organizations.
- Conduct tours, presentations, and volunteer engagement activities.
- Promote opportunities for volunteering, donating, and community involvement.
Event Coordination
- Assist with planning and coordinating fundraising and community events throughout the year.
- Recruit and coordinate volunteers for events.
- Support event logistics, setup, execution, and teardown.
- Collaborate with sponsors, vendors, and community partners.
Development Support
- Assist with donor communications and fundraising initiatives.
- Support grant research, editing, and communications efforts.
- Help maintain donor and engagement records.
- Analyze engagement data to improve outreach strategies.
Qualifications
Required
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and project management abilities.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Strong storytelling, writing, and public speaking skills.
- Experience using Google Workspace, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, and similar communication tools.
- Ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders and community partners.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Preferred
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, Nonprofit Management, or a related field.
- Two or more years of communications, marketing, nonprofit, or community engagement experience.
- Bilingual English/Spanish.
- Experience with photography, videography, graphic design, and social media management.
- Experience with donor databases, CRM systems, or fundraising software.

Work Environment
This position regularly travels throughout the San Luis Valley and requires occasional evening and weekend work to support events and community engagement activities. Candidates must be able to lift and transport event materials weighing up to 30–50 pounds.

Work Location: In person
