Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Salary: $65,000 - $80,000 Annually
About Us
Head Injury Association is a mission-driven nonprofit providing support to individuals with brain injuries and developmental disabilities. We are seeking an experienced and strategic Assistant Director of HR to help build a strong, engaged workforce and drive HR initiatives that align with our mission.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, the Assistant Director of HR will oversee HR operations, talent acquisition, employee development, and compliance. This role partners with leadership to implement HR strategies, support supervisors, and ensure regulatory compliance while promoting a positive, high-performing workplace.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee full-cycle recruitment: advertising, candidate sourcing, interviewing, and selection
- Partner with department leaders to assess staffing needs and workforce planning
- Develop innovative recruitment strategies to attract high-quality candidates, including DSPs and management staff
- Ensure smooth and engaging onboarding experiences for new employees
- Provide guidance and coaching to supervisors and managers on employee performance, conduct, and HR policies
- Address employee concerns, mediate conflicts, and support a positive work environment
- Assist in implementing performance management programs, reviews, and recognition initiatives
- Ensure compliance with OPWDD, DOH, and employment laws
- Support audits, surveys, and regulatory inspections
- Maintain and update HR policies, procedures, and employee handbook
- Assist the HR Director in leading departmental initiatives and strategic HR planning
- Supervise HR staff as needed and provide mentorship
- Serve as acting HR Director when required
- Participate in organizational committees and special projects
- Perform other HR-related duties to support the agency’s mission
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (Master’s preferred)
- 3-5 years of progressive HR experience, preferably in nonprofit/human services
- Strong knowledge of HR laws, OPWDD regulations, and HR best practices
- Experience in recruitment, employee relations, performance management, and HR compliance
- Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills
- Experience with HRIS systems and Microsoft Office
