Assistant Director of Institutional Research

Position Description Summary/Purpose:

Working with direction from the Vice President for Academic Affairs/Provost and the Director of Institutional Research, collects and analyzes data about the University of Bridgeport (UB), including all of its programs. Reports data to internal and external audiences in a meaningful and accurate manner, ensuring that reports are produced in a clear and consistent format. Synthesizes data to generate meaningful information to be used for institutional strategic decision making. They will manage the design and implementation of a comprehensive data management program for overall improvement of reporting and data sharing. Reporting to the Director of Institutional Research, they will be a member of the Institutional Effectiveness team.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities:

  • Supports initiatives as defined by the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost

  • Provides leadership for the Office of Institutional Research in the absence of the Director, including overseeing daily operations, coordinating project timelines, supporting staff, making informed decisions on data requests and reporting priorities, and ensuring the continuity of institutional research, assessment, and compliance functions.

  • Conducts quantitative analysis of data from all of UB’s programs and writes clear, concise reports based on those data to be used by administrators to make strategic decisions.

  • Performs external reporting functions for the University, generates standard data reports (e.g., the Fact Book, IPEDS, and Common Data Set), coordinates the University’s timely response to internal and external data requests.

  • Prepares regular reports on enrollment, degrees awarded, and other related topics for internal and external audiences.

  • Ensures institutional compliance with federal reporting regulations by coordinating and making timely submissions of data to IPEDS.

  • Administers annual/regular surveys conducted by the University including the course evaluations, senior class, and RNL surveys.

  • Prepares and administers ad hoc surveys as needed. Analyzes and synthesizes results of these surveys and writes meaningful reports based on the results.

  • Maintains strategic performance indicators and other comparative data reports for Institutional administrators and Trustees.

  • Responds to internal and external ad hoc requests for data.

  • Supports other Planning & Assessment projects, as needed.

  • Works to enhance the University’s data storage, retrieval, and accessibility.

  • Provides timely and relevant updates on project work to members of the Planning and Assessment team.

  • Serves as primary institutional contact for IPEDS.

  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Required Qualifications:

Skills, Education, And Work Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree referred in data science, analytics, computer science, social sciences, or a related degree.

  • Minimum of two (2) years of data analysis experience.

  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite statistical software (SAS preferred), knowledge of quantitative and qualitative data analysis, as well as dashboard platforms such as PowerBI and Tableau.

  • Demonstrated critical-thinking skills with the ability to analyze information, question assumptions, and develop well-reasoned conclusions.

  • Strong desire to learn, with a proactive approach to acquiring new knowledge, skills, and tools.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations.

  • Must work well under pressure, and have knowledge and experience with state, local, and federal data requirements

  • Commitment to handling confidential materials discreetly and professionally.

  • The patience and compassion required to explain and discuss technical information with non-technical audiences.
