Job Description:The Assistant Director of Public Safety serves several functions within the Public Safety Department. The primary purpose is to assist the Director of Public Safety in investigations and operations. The primary function is to conduct investigations associated with student and employee misconduct, internal university matters and criminal investigations where appropriate. Investigates serious crimes on campus to include: sexual assaults, sexual misconduct, harassment, stalking, vandalism, theft and accidents. Prepares appropriate investigative documents and provides completed reports to appropriate officers. The Assistant Director is responsible for coordinating the scheduling of department personnel; managing the maintenance of department vehicles, sophisticated security and surveillance systems, recording Devices, overseeing Communications Center Operations, Records Management, handling of evidence within the department; assist the Associate Director in the maintaining all legally mandated statistics (Clery, etc.); serving as a liaison to local law enforcement agencies; Assume all duties of the Director and Associate Director in their absence, including meetings, speeches and daily administrative operations; and emergency response coordination and management.

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Political Science, Public Administration, or a closely related field*

At least 5 years of investigative experience, along with progressively responsible administrative, operational, and supervisory experience

Must maintain a valid New York State Security Guard License and remain current with all required training and regulations

Demonstrated operational planning and organizational skills

Strong oral and written communication skills

Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with diverse populations

Strong public relations and interpersonal skills

Leadership style committed to quality customer service and proven management ability

Proficiency with relevant computer applications and systems

Ability to work independently within established procedures, policies, and regulations

Valid driver's license and ability to maintain insurability throughout employment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree

10-15 years of law enforcement experience

Extensive Military Police or Intelligence experience may be substituted for a portion of the law enforcement requirements

Experience as a training instructor or supervisor, or ability to obtain certification within one year of hire
- Relevant professional training (e.g., FBI National Academy, State Police Academies, or municipal police training academies) may, upon review, be substituted for college credits toward a degree.
Additional Information:
Salary: $55,310 (10-month position; August 15 - June 15)
