Assistant Director/Teacher

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR JOB DESCRIPTION

QUALIFICATIONS

Must have a CDA, CCP, AA or BS in Early Childhood Education or a related field and have a valid CPR/1st Aid Certification. Must maintain training hours and Current CPR/1st aid yearly.

DESCRIPTION

Assistant Directors may also be classroom teachers. In the event of the Directors absence the Assistant Director is in charge of the building. They must either open or close the building. Even while the Assistant Director is in the classroom she/he should continue to present a professional manner and act in the best interest of the center.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

• Ensure that building is staffed correctly at all times,
• Ensure the safety of all children at all times.
• Ensure the cleanliness of the building daily.
• Check that lesson plans are being followed daily.
• Check for playground safety daily before anyone goes out.
• Turn in work orders for all repairs.
• Sign in and out all children during your shift including bus children.
• If someone you are not familiar with tries to pick up children ask for an ID and look them up on the computer.
• Ensure all staff take attendance before going outside and before returning inside.
• Collect payments-no cash- from parents and print a receipt.
• Ensure that the EBT card is swiped daily by each parent of state children,
• Check for building cleanliness.
• Call parents of absent children before 10:00am.
• Ensure that staff get their breaks – no overtime.
• Discuss any problems with staff at the time of the problem and reach a corrective agreement. If no agreement is reached and improvement made write a plan of corrective action for the employee.
• Notify parents of emergencies regarding their children in director’s absence. Also call the main office.
• Answer phone in a polite, friendly, professional manner. “Thank you for calling Smart Start # ____ this is _________ may I help you?
• Be familiar with and follow all regulations – Playcare, DHS, NECPA.

• Know teacher job descriptions and act as the lead teacher in a classroom as needed.
• Know director job description and act as the director in the director’s absence.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $13.50 - $14.00 per hour

• Childcare: 1 year (Preferred)
