The Sanctuary Golf Club, a prestigious, Audubon International Certified, private golf club located in Sanibel Island, FL is hiring a full time, year-round Assistant Mechanic - Equipment Operator in our Green and Grounds Department.
For this DUAL ROLE, we need an experienced and professional individual who will contribute to all golf course maintenance activities, in part by assisting the Club's Equipment Manager in the maintenance and repair of golf course equipment including mowers, tractors, utility vehicles, and small engines. This individual will also support the grounds crew by performing tasks beyond the shop that help maintain the golf course and landscaping on and around the course, Clubhouse and other Club facilities.
In addition to experience and a strong skill-set, candidate must have a positive, receptive, and team-oriented attitude. We require an employee who is willing to step in, solve problems, and help find ways to get the job done!
COMPENSATION: Up to $25.00/hr. based on skill and experience.
SCHEDULE: Full time, 40 hrs./week or more, operational hours begin at 6:00 a.m. and include shortened, rotating (every other) weekends. Must be able to work a flexible schedule based on departmental needs. Must be available for overtime, when necessary.

RESPONSIBILITIES
The Assistant Mechanic ensures that equipment is properly maintained and operates safely and efficiently to support the overall maintenance of the golf course.

Assists in the diagnosis and troubleshooting of mechanical issues.

Inspects equipment for operating deficiencies.
-
Repairs and adjusts equipment; inspects, changes and repairs tires.

Lubricates and services course maintenance equipment.
-
Assists in maintaining repair records on equipment.
-
Performs general overhaul and other preventive maintenance on equipment.

Maintains blades of reel mowers; adjusts cutting units on mowing equipment.

Performs emergency repair work in the field.

Under the direction of Equipment Manager, performs body and fender work, fabrication, welding, troubleshooting and repairs to hydraulic and electrical systems.

Communicates and reports any needs or problems related to course equipment.

Acts courteously and respectfully toward golfers and Members, vendors, coworkers, on and off the golf course.

Attends staff meetings as required.

May assist in training the staff in the proper care and upkeep of the golf course equipment.

May be called upon to operate or train to operate various types of maintenance equipment.

Maintains a positive, coachable attitude with openness to feedback and leadership direction.

Performs other tasks assigned by the Equipment Manager or Golf Course Superintendent.

As an Equipment Operator, the following duties and expectations are also required:

Maintains golf course and landscaping on and around the course, Clubhouse and other Club facilities, including parking lots.

Assists in daily course set-up and other golf course maintenance related tasks.

Plants and maintains ornamental shrubs and trees; cut grass, weeds and bushes; trims and feeds shrubs and trees; removes cuttings; rakes and blows leaves.

Mows greens and fairways as instructed, rakes bunkers.

Prepares and lays sod; prepares soil plant beds and establishes plantings by seed or transplants.

Loads and unloads materials.
-
Properly inspects all equipment before leaving the facility to ensure proper working order.

Operates equipment in a safe, efficient manner as trained and instructed.

Assists in keeping the maintenance shop, restrooms and break rooms clean and presentable.

Acts courteously and respectfully toward golfers and Members, vendors, coworkers, on and off the golf course.

Requirements:
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be at least 18 years of age.

Graduate of a vocational technical school or post-secondary training in small engine repair or mechanics, preferred.

One to two years of experience as a golf course equipment mechanic is preferred.

Knowledge of tools, methods and materials used in grounds maintenance work.

Must be proficient in speaking, reading and writing English; Bilingual in English and Spanish, preferred.

Ability to operate golf course equipment such as hand mowers, triplex and light weight fairway mowing is preferred.

Must be self-motivated, lead by example and pay attention to detail for maintenance practices.

Strong work ethic and commitment to maintaining and promoting a safe work environment.

The department operates 24 hours a day and work hours may fluctuate based on weather, special events, and agronomic needs; this position requires the availability for on-call duty and the ability to respond to after-hours communications or emergencies.

Must be available to work a flexible work schedule, including weekends and overtime, as needed.

Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation required.

Experience in high-end club environment a plus; however no club experience is necessary.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions.

Frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.

Exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; extreme cold; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
