First review of applications will be conducted within two weeks of advertisement.Please view our detailed brochure here.Under general direction of the Fire Chief, manages and directs the activities and operations of the Fire department, to include emergency response, emergency medical services, training, fire safety, and employee development; acts as safety, command or support for emergencies and disasters.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Directs the Operations Division through effective planning and staff management; researches, evaluates, and implements policies and procedures to meet Department goals. Coordinates Departmental communications, training, and personnel issues; develops strategies to meet Department goals and objectives; interprets concerns, defines desired results, and develops solutions; as assigned, assumes duties of the Fire Chief.Assists in developing and managing budget; tracks and evaluates expenditures. Provides leadership, direction and guidance for Firefighters to meet the public safety needs of the community; directs the activities of the Department officers and staff; plans, prioritizes and assigns tasks and projects; instructs and trains staff, monitors work, develops staff skills, and evaluates performance; analyzes workload trends and implements staffing and assignment adjustments. Meets regularly with staff to discuss and resolve priorities, workload, quality standards, and technical issues; reviews recent tactical and technological advancements, evaluates impact on Department operations, and recommend operational improvements.Monitors Department operational data, reports, and trends; and evaluates the efficiency and effectiveness of Department methods and procedures; reviews and approves staff
reports.Reviews and analyzes operational data and activity reports; identifies Department service demands and resource availability; develops recommendations and plans to improve operational
effectiveness.Reviews budget and expenditures; approves purchases, monitors and orders supplies, including EMS medical and controlled substance medications; reviews overtime use, and works with Battalion Chiefs on overtime usage and staffing requirements.Assumes emergency incident scene command according to Department guidelines; determines the proper course of action, and coordinates response; prioritizes emergency medical responses, and mitigates hazards, emergency situations, and hazardous materials incidents.Coordinates the development of emergency preparedness and response plans and
programs.Reviews and analyzes operational data and activity reports; identifies Department service demands and resource availability; develops recommendations and plans to improve operational effectiveness.May be asked to perform additional job duties that are directly, indirectly or completely unrelated to normal job functions in the course of presenting certain Town special events.Performs related duties as required or assigned.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
PHYSICAL AND WORK ENVIRONMENTWork is performed in a standard office environment. May be exposed to extreme weather conditions and temperatures and potential physical danger when field work is required. Must maintain appropriate level of physical fitness as a condition of continued employment and successfully pass the annual job task simulation.
