Overview
The Assistant Fleet Manager plays a critical role in supporting the Fleet Manager in all aspects of fleet operations, including vehicle maintenance, scheduling, and compliance. This individual will assist with managing the fleet’s daily operations and ensure vehicles are maintained, compliant, and operating efficiently. In addition to administrative duties, the Assistant Fleet Manager will step in to perform route deliveries when drivers are short-staffed, requiring a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). This is a hands-on, fast-paced role that requires strong organizational skills, the ability to manage multiple tasks, and flexibility to take on driving responsibilities as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Fleet Manager in overseeing the daily operations of the fleet, including vehicle maintenance, repairs, and scheduling.
- Monitor vehicle condition and ensure timely service and maintenance.
- Maintain accurate records for all fleet vehicles, including logs of maintenance, fuel usage, insurance, and registration.
- Help with fleet reporting, tracking key metrics like fuel efficiency, maintenance costs, and vehicle usage.
- Assist with procuring new vehicles and handling the disposal or sale of outdated vehicles.
- Coordinate with drivers to ensure vehicles are properly assigned and schedules are maintained.
- Provide training or guidance to drivers when needed on vehicle operations and safety procedures.
- Step in to assist with route deliveries or other driving tasks when drivers are unavailable or short-staffed.
- Ensure drivers are following established safety protocols and regulations during their shifts.
- Assist in planning and optimizing routes for drivers to maximize efficiency.
- Perform delivery duties as needed, ensuring timely and safe deliveries.
- Ensure all fleet vehicles are compliant with state, federal, and local regulations.
- Assist with maintaining vehicle safety certifications and insurance coverage.
- Regularly inspect fleet vehicles to ensure they meet safety standards and address any issues immediately.
- Maintain adherence to company policies, as well as safety and regulatory standards.
- Monitor and track fleet costs, including fuel usage, maintenance expenses, and repairs.
- Identify opportunities to reduce costs and improve fleet efficiency.
- Assist with budget preparation and forecasting for fleet operations.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Fleet Manager or similar role in transportation or logistics.
- Strong knowledge of vehicle maintenance practices and regulatory requirements.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Strong leadership abilities with experience in team management and development.
- Proficient in using fleet management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written.
- A valid driver's license is required; additional certifications related to fleet management are a plus.

Pay: $47,800.00 - $70,000.00 per year
