ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND OBJECTIVES:

Under the direction of the Head Football Coach, the Assistant Football Coach supports all aspects of the football program. Responsibilities include coaching an assigned position group, recruiting qualified student-athletes, supporting academic success initiatives, assisting with practice and game preparation, and contributing to the overall development and operation of the football program. Specific coaching duties and assignments will be determined by the Head Coach.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Coaching & Player Development

  • Coach an assigned position group as designated by the Head Coach.
  • Assist in planning, organizing, and conducting practice sessions.
  • Contribute to the development of game strategies, adjustments, and player evaluations.
  • Assist with game-day responsibilities, including sideline organization, substitutions, and unit-specific needs.
  • Provide film review and breakdown for practices, games, and opponents.
  • Evaluate student-athlete performance and contribute to depth chart discussions.
  • Support strength and conditioning sessions in collaboration with the strength staff.

Recruiting

  • Recruit assigned geographic areas and evaluate prospective student-athletes.
  • Communicate regularly with prospects, families, and high school/club coaches.
  • Host campus visits and assist with tours and informational sessions.
  • Monitor admissions progress of prospective recruits.

Academic Support & Student Success

  • Encourage and monitor student-athlete academic progress in coordination with academic support staff.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with eligibility rules and institutional/association requirements.
  • Proctor study hall sessions and help coordinate tutoring when needed.
  • Maintain awareness of academic deadlines and communicate important dates to student-athletes.

Program Operations & Administration

  • Assist with team travel arrangements and logistics.
  • Support program communication efforts, including social media and collaboration with the Sports Information Department.
  • Participate in fundraising events and community engagement activities.
  • Maintain equipment, facilities, and program resources as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Football Coach or Athletic Director.

KEY COMPETENCIES

  • Knowledge of football fundamentals, strategies, and position-specific techniques.
  • Understanding of collegiate athletic rules and regulations.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse groups and collaborate as part of a staff.
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Commitment to confidentiality and ethical conduct.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as needed.
  • CPR/First Aid/AED certification preferred.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s or graduate degree preferred.
  • Prior coaching and recruiting experience at the collegiate level preferred.
  • Experience with fundraising or community engagement is a plus.
