This position schedules, coordinates and oversees forestry field operations and work assignments for the Forester, Natural Resources Technician and Forestry Technicians, and performs forestry tasks. The work is performed under the supervision of the Forest Administrator.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Illustrative only)

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING REQUIRED:
Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry or related field, five years forestry management experience, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities. A valid commercial driver’s license, and Class 1 Blasters license required or must be able to obtain.
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

o Ability to analyze data and information using established criteria, in order to determine consequences and to identify and select alternatives. Ability to compare, count, differentiate, measure, copy, record and transcribe data and information. Ability to classify, compute, tabulate, and categorize data.
o Ability to counsel, mediate and/or provide first line supervision. Ability to persuade, convince, and train others. Ability to advise and provide interpretation regarding the application of policies, procedures and standards to specific situations.
o Ability to utilize a variety of advisory and design data and information such as contracts, work plans, parks receipts, equipment billings, annual sales reports, schedules, performance evaluations, requisition forms, vehicle maintenance records, maps, forest plans, conservation practices, road plans, aerial photos, county ordinances and silvaculture textbooks.
o Ability to communicate orally and in writing with loggers, Forestry Committee, DNR, general public, students and fire control personnel.
o Ability to calculate percentages, fractions, decimals, volumes, ratios, present values and spatial relationships. Ability to interpret basic descriptive statistical reports.
o Ability to use functional reasoning in performing influence functions such as supervising, managing, leading, teaching, directing and controlling.
o Ability to exercise the judgment, decisiveness and creativity required in situations involving the evaluation of information against sensory and/or judgmental criteria, as opposed to criteria which are clearly measurable.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to operate equipment and machinery requiring complex and rapid adjustments, such as dozer, fork lift, semi-tractor trailer, pick-up truck, welder, cutting torch, portable generator, calculator, chain saw, snowmobile, ATV, post hole digger, winches, fax machine, photocopier, camera, planting spade, cellular phone and two-way radio.
Ability to coordinate eyes, hands, feet and limbs in performing skilled movements such as heavy equipment use.
Ability to exert moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling.
Ability to recognize and identify degrees of similarities or differences between characteristics of colors, shapes, sounds, tastes and odors associated with job-related objects, materials and tasks.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Ability to work under often unsafe and uncomfortable conditions where exposure to environmental factors such as temperature variations, toxic agents, explosives, noise, vibrations, wetness, machinery, insects, wild animals and/or dust can cause discomfort and where there is a risk of injury.

Pay: $33.43 - $37.14 per hour
