Position
We are seeking an attorney to join the legal team within the Office of General Counsel. The Office of General Counsel is responsible for providing legal advice to all divisions of the Comptroller’s Office and handling specific matters assigned by the Comptroller. Reporting to the General Counsel, the
Assistant General Counsel will assist in advising the Office on legal matters and will represent the Office’s interests.
Key responsibilities for this position will include:

Providing legal counsel, interpretation, and advice to various divisions of the Comptroller's Office

Performing legal work of complex difficulty; including researching and analyzing legal issues, drafting and reviewing legal documents, identifying legal issues and concerns and bringing them to the attention of Office management and leadership, and providing legal advice in matters relating to the administration of the Office

Assisting in the formulation and communication of the Office's position on legal issues to the public

Preparing cases for and representing clients in administrative hearings

Interpreting legislation and providing legal analysis on the effect it may have on the operation of the Office

Drafting legislation for the Office and representing the Office before legislative committees and hearings as needed

Attending and presenting at legal conferences, seminars, meetings, and state and local government official conferences, seminars, and public meetings

Serving on boards and commissions as a designee of the Comptroller
Qualifications
You are qualified for consideration for this position if you meet the following criteria:
-
Graduate of an accredited four-year college or university

Hold a Juris Doctorate (JD) from an accredited law school

Licensed to practice law in the State of Tennessee

In good standing with the Tennessee Bar, Tennessee Supreme Court, and the Tennessee Board of Professional Responsibility

Minimum 2 years of legal experience, including legal internships and externships

Excellent analytical, writing, and communication skills with a strong attention to detail

High level of integrity and professionalism

Ability to develop strong relationships with clients, state and local government officials, and colleagues
Compensation
The Comptroller’s Office offers a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package that includes at least twelve days of annual leave and twelve days of sick leave upon hiring, insurance plans, pension retirement plan, 401(k), college fee waivers, discounts, and much more.
