Assistant General Manager at Tea Cafe in Santa Monica

Join the team at Kavahana, a fun 3rd space café open from morning till late serving tea, coffee, and shave ice.

This is a unique role that is essential to the success of Kavahana. You will support both our team and our guests, serving as a key connection point for daily operations.

In this role, you will do shifts at our tea café as a barista, and also help support our General Manager across operations, events, and more. You will help uphold Kavahana’s high standards while fostering a positive and motivated team environment.

What You'll Do:

• Work regular shifts at the café, serving up yummy matcha, coffee, and kava nectar drinks.
• Alongside the general manager, train, lead, and motivate the team so that everyone performs their absolute best
• Maintain compliance with health standards and regulations
• Support our themed nights, events, and community hangouts that make Kavahana feel special.
• Help with inventory management
• Work with the general manager to develop operational processes
• Use Canva to design simple assets (like flyers or menus), and collaborate with outside designers when needed. While this isn't a design role, having a good visual sense is a big plus.
• Run local errands or assist with pickups and deliveries from time to time.

Who We're Looking For:

• Minimum 3 years of experience in food, beverage, or hospitality
• Comfortable talking to customers, this role involves a LOT of interaction and education. Much more than any coffee or boba shop.
• Someone with a passion for the development and training of people
• Comfortable appearing in social media content, we love showcasing our team and the experience we create.
• Comfortable with Canva
• As we are a busy spot, Saturday and Sunday availability is required.
• Availability to work shifts during some holidays is required.
• Strong multitasking, time management, and teamwork skills.
• We are looking for someone who is looking for a career in hospitality. Must be comfortable working in fast paced startup environment.

Job Details:

• $20/hr + TIPS (we are both a café and non-alcoholic bar. tips are comparable to bars. tips only when working barista shifts - 100% of tips go to the team, never to the business).
