Examples of Work Performed

  • Oversees the reservation system, starting, and monitoring of play.
  • Trains, schedules, and supervises counter staff, food service staff, cart mechanic, starters, and rangers.
  • Responsible for sale of greens fees, cart rentals, daily cash receipts and accounting of same, daily deposits, inventory of concessions and merchandise, providing safe, clean, profitable food and beverage service, and maintaining the clubhouse in a presentable fashion.
  • Enforces rules and regulations governing golf course usage.
  • Develops and oversees golf instruction and golfer developments programs.
  • Cooperates with Golf Course Maintenance Supervisor concerning frost delays, driving range, and maintenance scheduling.
  • Prepares and submits reports related to personnel and payroll transaction, maintenance, accidents, statistical data, range contests, golf tournaments, revenue, and weekly activities report.
  • Ensures compliance with City and department policies, rules and regulations.

Requirements of Work

  • Some knowledge of sales and merchandising of golf course equipment.
  • Some knowledge of food preparation and service.
  • Some knowledge of cash handling procedures.
  • Considerable knowledge of the fundamentals, techniques, rules and regulations of and the skills required for participation in the game of golf.
  • Some knowledge of the objectives and methods used in planning, organizing, promoting and operating golf leagues, tournaments and open play.
  • Ability to accurately maintain records and prepare reports.
  • Ability to provide instructions in all phases of the game of golf to others.
  • Ability to properly account for materials, supplies, and funds.
  • Ability to effectively train and supervise personnel.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other City Staff, and the public.
  • Ability to present professional public image in order to market municipal golf courses.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to walk and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work outdoors when inclement weather conditions exist.
  • Ability to walk outdoors over uneven terrain for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to climb indoor and outdoor stairs.
  • Ability to bend, stoop and twist to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Ability to operate a cash register and basic office equipment, golf carts, public address system, computer, and telephone.
  • Ability to acquire and maintain a valid Kansas driver's license.
  • Ability to acquire and maintain a food handler's license.
  • Ability to acquire and maintain an alcoholic beverage license.
  • An employee shall not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.

Experience and Training

Required Experience and Training

  • Three (3) years of hands-on experience in the golf industry, including golf instruction, clubhouse operations, and tournament or league management.
  • 5 years of supervising experience.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need of a sponsorship.

Preferred Experience and Training

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with an emphasis in business management or recreation management.
  • Active in PGA, GPTP, or LPGA, T&CP programs.

Offers of employment will be made contingent upon passing a pre-employment physical, which will include drug screening, and upon satisfactory evaluation of the results of a police records check.
