Assistant Librarian

The John A. Pidgeon Library at the Kiski School is looking for highly organized candidates with excellent interpersonal skills for the position of Assistant Librarian. The Assistant Librarian will be responsible for managing inquiries from students and faculty in finding materials and resources. They assist with readers advisory, internet access, printing and ensuring technical needs are met. They understand and utilize our library management system for sorting and categorizing books. They also create programs and displays to promote the use and understanding of materials in the collection. Furthermore, library assistants need to manage the library space, student behavior with confidence and excellent communicative skill.

Library Assistant Responsibilities:

• Helping patrons locate books, or materials online.
• Checking books in and out at the front desk, processing Interlibrary loan requests
• Sorting and shelving books according to their categorization.
• Register new patrons and maintaining and updating patron lists and profiles.
• Maintaining records of books borrowed, overdues, and books returned.
• Cataloging new arrivals.
• Assisting patrons with internet access and ensuring their technical needs are met.
• Organizing the repair of damaged books.
• Managing inquiries over the counter and via email or telephone.
• Assisting with library events and reading sessions.
• Managing and maintaining proper library comportment, enforcing school rules, fostering positive relationships with students
• Proctoring classes

Library Assistant Requirements:

• Preferred candidates are those pursuing a library degree, school library certification, or with experience in school libraries.
• Basic computer literacy.
• Outstanding organizational skills.
• Attention to detail and good problem solving ability.
• Exceptional interpersonal skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Availability for 4 days and one evening per week, coverage as needed, 35-40 hours per week.
