Reports To: Maintenance Chief / Chief Engineer
The Assistant Maintenance Chief supports the Maintenance Chief in overseeing all maintenance operations for the hotel to ensure guest comfort, safety, and uninterrupted operations. This role combines handson technical work with team leadership, vendor coordination, and preventive maintenance oversight. The Assistant Maintenance Chief acts as the lead in the absence of the Maintenance Chief and helps maintain the hotel's physical assets to brand, safety, and quality standards.

Assist in overseeing daily maintenance activities for guest rooms, public areas, backofhouse spaces, and exterior grounds

Perform and oversee complex repairs involving HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical systems, and lifesafety equipment

Respond promptly to maintenance emergencies and urgent guestimpacting issues

Conduct routine inspections to identify maintenance needs and safety concerns

Assist with supervising maintenance staff, including assigning work orders and reviewing completed tasks

Provide handson training and technical guidance to maintenance team members

Step in as acting Maintenance Chief during absences, vacations, or offhours coverage

Promote a positive, serviceoriented team culture aligned with hotel standards

Support the preventive maintenance program to reduce downtime and extend asset life

Maintain equipment logs, maintenance records, and compliance documentation

Assist in planning seasonal maintenance and minor capital improvement projects

Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, fire and lifesafety codes, health regulations, and hotel brand standards

Support safety inspections, drills, and corrective action followup

Maintain guestfirst awareness when scheduling or performing maintenance work in occupied areas

Assist with vendor coordination, service calls, and contractor oversight

Monitor inventory of tools, parts, and supplies; assist with ordering as needed

Communicate effectively with Front Desk, Housekeeping, and Management regarding maintenance priorities and work status

3-5 years of hotel or facilities maintenance experience

Strong working knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems

Ability to perform handson repairs and lead by example

Knowledge of safety regulations and preventive maintenance practices

Ability to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, and oncall rotations

Prior supervisory or lead maintenance experience

Hotel or hospitality industry background

Trade certifications or licenses (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or related)

Experience using maintenance workorder or CMMS systems
