Assistant Maintenance Manager

Position Summary

The Assistant Maintenance Manager supports the Maintenance Manager in overseeing the daily operations of campus maintenance services. This position assists with supervising maintenance staff, coordinating repairs and preventative maintenance, and ensuring campus facilities are safe, functional, and well maintained. The Assistant Maintenance Manager helps manage work orders, special projects, and maintenance schedules to support the operational needs of the institution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in supervising and coordinating the daily work of maintenance staff.
  • Support the Maintenance Manager in scheduling and assigning work orders, repairs, and preventative maintenance tasks.
  • Inspect campus facilities to identify maintenance needs and ensure work is completed effectively and safely.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and resolving maintenance issues related to electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, and general building systems.
  • Help oversee maintenance projects including repairs, renovations, and equipment installations.
  • Monitor maintenance supplies, tools, and equipment and assist with ordering materials as needed.
  • Ensure maintenance work complies with institutional policies and safety regulations.
  • Respond to urgent maintenance issues and assist with after-hours or emergency situations when necessary.
  • Coordinate with housekeeping, grounds, and other departments to support campus operations and special events.
  • Assist with maintaining maintenance records, work orders, and preventative maintenance documentation.
  • Provide guidance and training to maintenance staff as directed by the Maintenance Manager.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required; technical certification or associate degree in a related field preferred.
  • Experience in building maintenance, facilities operations, or skilled trades required.
  • Prior supervisory or lead experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and general maintenance practices.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift, carry, and move equipment and supplies.
  • Ability to stand, climb ladders, bend, and perform physical maintenance tasks.
  • Ability to work in indoor and outdoor environments.

  • The ability to work cooperatively with all personnel and departments in the University.
