Assistant Manager – Supplier Development & Sourcing

India

Summary:
We are looking for an Assistant Manager (4–6 years’ experience) with strong exposure to multi-commodity procurement and supplier development in the automotive industry, preferably with experience in pneumatic & hydraulic solenoid valve assemblies. The role demands technical knowledge across mechanical and electrical parts, strong commercial acumen, and exceptional communication skills to negotiate effectively with suppliers. The individual must also be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and deliver within strict timelines aligned to customer milestones and APQP/PPAP requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage suppliers for machined parts, plastics, sheet metal, rubber, springs, forgings, castings (PDC, SGI), and electrical components.
  • Drive supplier identification, audits, qualification, and development across domestic and global markets.
  • Manage RFQs, RFPs, cost breakdowns (ZBC, should-costing), and commercial negotiations, leveraging communication skills for best outcomes.
  • Track and analyze raw material indexes (e.g., Nalco, CIAM, steel, copper, aluminium) to build cost intelligence and drive proactive negotiations.
  • Ensure supplier compliance with APQP, PPAP, Run@Rate, and audit standards (IATF 16949 / VDA 6.3 / ISO 9001).
  • Implement strategic sourcing principles—supplier consolidation, localization, global sourcing, and long-term contracts.
  • Support tooling & capacity planning for new projects and engineering changes in collaboration with Engineering & Quality.
  • Monitor supplier performance (OTD, PPM, cost competitiveness) and initiate corrective actions.
  • Stay updated on global sourcing trends, currency fluctuations, and commodity price movements, providing insights to management.
  • Manage multiple sourcing and supplier development projects simultaneously, ensuring strict adherence to project timelines and customer schedules.
  • Continuously improve procurement processes through digital tools, dashboards, and structured reporting to the Director.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical/Production/Industrial Engineering (mandatory); exposure to electrical/electromechanical components preferred.
  • 4–6 years of experience in automotive supplier development, sourcing, or purchase with multi-commodity exposure.
  • Proven experience in APQP, PPAP, and supplier audits. • Hands-on with ERP systems (SAP, Tally ERP, or equivalent).

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong negotiation, costing, and supplier relationship management.
  • Excellent communication skills—able to influence and create leverage in supplier discussions.
  • Analytical ability for cost breakdowns, TCO analysis, and raw material index tracking.
  • Knowledge of multi-commodity procurement (mechanical + electrical). • Excellent time management, prioritization, and multitasking skills to manage multiple projects under strict deadlines.
  • Proficient in MS Office (advanced Excel required). • Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and cross-functional collaboration.

Physical Requirements:

  • 70–80% office-based, with frequent supplier visits. • Must possess valid driving license and willingness to travel (domestic & international if required).
