Photography & Video assistant (5-10 hrs/week)

The Photo and Video Assistant creates visual assets that bring Sanctuary to life for our members and the millions of people we reach on social media. Behind every Farm Sanctuary image—moving or still—is a story of hope and compassion. The PVA will be part of a Webby-nominated team working to change the way society views and treats farm animals. Located at our 300-acre flagship Sanctuary in Watkins Glen, NY, with the support of the Caregiving Team, the PVA has access to life on Sanctuary and the approximately 800 animals—herds of cows, flocks of sheep, droves of pigs, turkeys, hens, roosters, and ducks—that call Farm Sanctuary home.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for capturing the daily life on Sanctuary at our flagship Sanctuary in Watkins Glen, NY
- Shoot/assist with creating social-friendly videos.
- Brainstorm and collaborate with Content Producer (CP) to develop new content.
- Shoot and edit new photos for projects such as Sanctuary magazine and the calendar
- Photograph VIP tours and staff as assigned
- Assist photographing special events; capture stills and produce short reels or videos for internal events (some weekends required to film/photograph)
- Editing such as toning, retouching, and optimizing digital photos and sizing images for print, web, and social
- Archiving such as uploading, cataloging, and assigning proper metadata/keywords to new and existing assets in the DAM
- Pulling, creating, and editing collections from the DAM for editorial use
- Establish a good working relationship with caregivers and on site staff
Preferred Qualifications:
- Photo portfolio and/or video reel submission required
- Photo and video editing skills, experience with Mac OS, Adobe Premiere or Final Cut Pro X, Adobe Photoshop and/or Adobe Lightroom
- Motion graphics experience such as Adobe After Effects, preferred
- Knowledge of photographic techniques such as lighting and composition
- Acute understanding of photo and video optimizing, including for social media
- Experience with animal photography/videography preferred but not necessary
- Knowledge of photo research sources, from photo agencies and archives to boutique collections
- Comfort with working in sanctuary setting near all species in Farm Sanctuary’s care, including cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, alpacas, llamas, donkeys, chickens, turkeys, ducks and geese
- Willingness to commit to Farm Sanctuary’s values of compassion, understanding, integrity, transformation, and freedom.
- Open to learning about and putting into practice the ideals of equity and social justice, and the principles embedded in Farm Sanctuary’s mission
Pay: $20.00 - $27.42 per hour
