About Us

Merrimack Thoracic & Esophageal Surgery PLLC is an independent, multi-site thoracic surgical practice serving patients across Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire. We provide advanced thoracic oncology care, minimally invasive surgery, and perioperative management in collaboration with regional hospital systems.

We are seeking a motivated Assistant Physician — ideally a foreign medical graduate (IMG) or recently ECFMG-certified physician — to join our expanding program. The role combines hands-on clinical experience, telemedicine support, and structured mentorship under the supervision of a board-certified thoracic surgeon.

Role Overview

The Assistant Physician will:

  • Support outpatient evaluations, follow-up visits, and telemedicine consultations.
  • Assist with inpatient coordination, discharge summaries, and procedure documentation.
  • Participate in case discussions, tumor boards, and multidisciplinary rounds.
  • Contribute to EMR optimization, data collection, and quality improvement projects.

This position offers exposure to advanced thoracic oncology workflows, robotic surgery, and translational research environments.

Eligibility

Massachusetts candidates may qualify under the new Limited License Pathway for International Medical Graduates (Chapter 238, Acts of 2024). Applicants meeting MA Board of Registration in Medicine criteria (ECFMG certification, USMLE Step 1 & 2 CK, and prior international licensure) are encouraged to apply.
New Hampshire candidates may practice under physician supervision consistent with NH Board of Medicine and PA supervision standards.

Required:

  • Graduation from an accredited international or U.S. medical school.
  • ECFMG certification (or in process).
  • Strong written and spoken English; multilingual ability welcome.
  • Eligibility to work in the U.S. (visa sponsorship may be considered case-by-case).

Preferred:

  • Prior clinical or research experience in internal medicine, surgery, or oncology.
  • Familiarity with Epic or other EMR systems.

Compensation & Schedule

  • Competitive stipend commensurate with credentials and licensure status.
  • Variable schedule: mix of on-site, remote, and administrative hours.
  • Opportunities for performance-based bonuses and training stipends.
  • Pathway support toward Massachusetts limited license or New Hampshire PA/associate licensure.

To Apply

Submit a single PDF that includes:

  • Current CV
  • ECFMG certificate or USMLE transcript (if available)
  • Short statement describing clinical interests and career goals
