Job Summary
Assistant Planner is an entry-level position that provides professional and technical planning functions, including both current planning (development reviews) and long-range planning. The Assistant Planner must understand and apply adopted plans and regulations in a variety of circumstances including answering questions concerning land use regulations, reviewing land use applications, and drafting updates to planning documents and regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensures compliance with state and local laws and regulations affecting planning, land subdivision, and zoning.
- Apply planning principles and practices to current and long-range planning projects.
- Some administrative tasks may be assigned, which may include taking minutes at meetings, preparing meeting packets, and a variety of day-to-day office tasks.
- Work closely with developers by providing guidance on land use applications and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare and communicate a variety of information (verbal and written) to a variety of boards, commissions, and the public.
- Draft and communicate plan and regulation amendments.
- Required to attend meetings outside of normal working hours.
- Any other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in planning, public administration, or a closely related field of study (required).
- Land use planning or closely related experience is preferred.
- Possess or be able to obtain a Wyoming Driver's License and have a good driving record.
- Working knowledge of basic computer software and ArcGIS applications.
