Assistant Professor in Microbiology - Overview
The Sulaiman al Rajhi University located in Al Qassim, Saudi Arabia invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor in Microbiology. The successful candidate will contribute to teaching, research and academic service, particularly in areas related to infectious diseases, laboratory diagnostics and public health microbiology.
Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate medical students in general and clinical microbiology, including bacteriology, virology and immunology.
- Deliver lectures, laboratory sessions and case based learning aligned with the integrated medical curriculum.
- Develop and update course materials, assessments and digital learning resources.
- Supervise laboratory training, including microbiological techniques, diagnostics and biosafety practices.
- Participate in curriculum development and innovative teaching methodologies (PBL, TBL, simulation).
- Conduct independent and collaborative research in microbiology and publish in peer reviewed journals.
- Supervise and mentor student research projects and academic activities.
- Contribute to infection control awareness and antimicrobial stewardship education.
- Participate in departmental, college and university committees and accreditation processes.
- Engage in community outreach and professional development activities.
Qualifications & Requirements
- PhD or equivalent (MD/PhD) in Microbiology, Medical Microbiology or a related field.
- Minimum 2 3 years of university level teaching experience (preferred).
- Strong research background with publications in indexed journals.
- Experience in laboratory teaching and microbiological diagnostic techniques.
- Familiarity with modern medical education strategies (PBL, OSPE/OSCE, simulation).
- Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a multicultural academic environment.
- Fluency in English (required).
Preferred Qualifications
- Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS) classification (preferred).
- Experience in clinical microbiology, infection control or public health microbiology.
- Knowledge of accreditation standards (NCAAA or international bodies).
- Experience with e learning platforms and digital teaching tools.
