Assistant Professor of Practice in English

NHU-Riyadh is the Saudi branch campus of the University of New Haven, a private, nonprofit university founded in 1920 in Connecticut, USA. Launching in Fall 2026, NHU-Riyadh will bring an American university experience to Riyadh through the same accreditation, faculty standards, and career-focused educational approach that define the University of New Haven. NHU-Riyadh is being established to deliver academically rigorous, industry-aligned education that supports Saudi Arabia’s evolving workforce needs.

The College of Business and Digital Innovation at NHU-Riyadh invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Practice in English, beginning in Fall 2026. This is an exceptional opportunity to join a new academic venture, delivering a quality foundation of English competencies for majors across each of the colleges in Riyadh. This position includes teaching and service expectations along with the opportunity to develop innovative and relevant curricula. Candidates should demonstrate strong communication skills, a commitment to teaching excellence, and a student-centered approach. All faculty members are expected to contribute to student success through activities such as advising and career mentoring.

You will:

  • Teach: Inspire and mentor undergraduate students in each of the majors being offered (and to be offered) in English language coursework, incorporating the latest advancements and real-world applications. Courses to be taught include one or more of the following:
    • Primary Undergraduate Course to be taught: Seminar in Academic Inquiry and Writing.
    • Other Undergraduate Courses that may be taught include: Writing for Business and Industry and Narrative Structure in Games.
  • Academic Assessment: Collect learning assessment data as needed.
  • Curriculum Development: Contribute to the development of innovative curricula.
  • Mentorship: Guide and advise students, fostering their professional development and preparing them for successful careers.
  • Service: Engage in service activities that contribute to the department, college, and university.
  • Student Engagement: Support and engage in student focused activities to enhance the vibrant student population at the NHU-Riyadh campus.

You Need:

  • Ph.D. in English, Rhetoric and Composition, or related field; graduate-level coursework in the teaching of writing OR college-level experience teaching composition.
    • Master’s degree in English, Rhetoric and Composition, or related field, with significant college- level teaching experience will also be considered
  • Teaching Excellence: Demonstrated excellence in college-level teaching, with a passion for student learning and mentorship.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, to effectively engage with students. Bilingual language skills are a plus.

Compensation, which includes salary and any potential allowances, will be established in accordance with Saudi Arabian compensation framework in conjunction with the successful candidate’s qualifications, experience, education and position.

Any successful candidate for these roles will be processed, onboarded, and deployed to Riyadh through an outsourcing human resources company contracted by the University of New Haven specifically for this process. All academic duties will be supervised by New Haven University's administrative staff. Successful candidates will be required to obtain, and appropriately maintain, a Saudi Arabia Visa and related Work Authorizations through the contracted human resources outsourcing company.
